An old V5 confirms that this PC50 was first registered September 1970 making it one of the earliest K1 models produced and changed owners in 77 ... the person who supplied the bike to me was the next owner in 2021. The bike was found in a woodshed on a country estate in Scotland where it had remained for decades: the tax ran out in the mid-80s. We bought it for parts, the images on Ebay were pretty grim but it was cheap enough and a friend was able to pick it up and transport it down to the south coast and that is where the fun began. I soon realised the PC was different, it was a crossover with cycle parts from the previous OHC model (ie cush drive which the later model didn't enjoy) but with the K1 OHV motor; and this is how it left the factory in Japan. After cleaning away the wild life (including a spiders nest in the headlight) removing the loose paint and surface rust it became obvious the frame was totally solid and the fact it was rather unique meant a restoration was planned. Rather than cover the years dormant it seemed worth flatting back then polishing the dull paint that remained and with areas of bare metal and it began to create an interesting finish that when lacquered and sealed it does look very impressive. The original Cloud white fuel tank was cleaned and refinished in 2 pack as was the tool box and chain guard. Mudguards are undamaged and enjoy factory grey to match body colour. The hubs where cut out and new bearings fitted then relaced with new spokes and rims completed with fresh rubber including Continental white walls, new exhaust, steering lock and chain etc. The engine ran but was tired so we decided to strip and rebore with new piston and rings ... it has travelled about 30 miles since. Only part that is not working is the usual PC issue with the speedo drive unit in the hub .. from factory the 'tag washer' (which costs less than a pound) bends and the speedo stops (ours at 8339) or is erratic .. Mopedland are waiting for a new supply so I hope to get this sorted prior to sale. House move/ downsizing means most of our collection will find new homes ... tbh I will be happy if this one doesn't sell.
