For Sale: Harley Davidson 1957 FL Hydraglide. Documented ex Vietnam presidential escort motorcycle. Part of a number of motorcycle (all 1957 hydraglides) motorcade given by Eisenhower administration to Ngo Dinh Diem, president of South Vietnam. In ownership of Nguyen Van Nonh a well known Vincent guy from Saigon/ Ho Chi Minh city at the time also an ex captain of the presidential motorcade, and a keeper of this motorcycle throughout the turbulent political times. Unique opportunity to acquire an extremely original motorcycle with interesting history. Imported to the UK from Vietnam by a known motorcycle collector in 1992. Purchased by a present owner and subsequently reconditioned by a Swiss expert Alex Luchinger’s workshop at no expense spared. During reconditioning works a high degree of originality of this motorcycle was confirmed, factory finishes on the engine unit that is all original never rebuilt low mileage factory engine with correct VIN. Engine runs perfect. Transmission was rebuilt, clutch as well. Too much to list. Extensive file of work done by a top Swiss workshop with receipts and photos. History file as found in Vietnam. Paint and finishes mostly from work done in Switzerland apart from engine finishes that are original. Paint was recreated as all black according to an original photograph of the Vietnamese president motorcade and remains of original finish. Front fender flag holder. To my knowledge the only aftermarket part is outer primary cover as the original was beyond saving. All the fasteners are original. The seat is OEM correct reconditioned by Michael Paquette (Worsham Castle Leathers) who no longer restores seats but at that time was recognised by AMCA. OEM seat pan with marbled skirt. All the lights and lenses are GUIDE. Original police running lights. Original speedo in km (rare). Original speed king saddle bags. Original peaked clear windshield included with a small number of original spares. Motorcycle is mechanically excellent throughout. Runs and rides as it should. Last year hardtail frame (1958 has seen the appearance of Duo Glide with swingarm frame), one of the few hand shifters produced in 1957. Rare motorcycle with fascinating history. Unique opportunity.
