Description
This is a restored 1966 Volkswagen Pigalle Beetle. A red interior option was only offered by Volkswagen on white or black Beetles in 1966. These were known as Pigalle Beetles.
I am the third owner, the previous two being grandfather and grandson. The grandfather had named the car Ferdy. The car body, engine and gearbox were restored in 2008 by Chris Gilly in Stockport. The car was then driven 4500 miles before I bought the car in 2022.
In 2023, BJ Speed shop in Bodium Kent fitted a new, hand built, incredibly smooth, 1600 engine, an electronic fuel pump, a new VW steering box, a Vintagespeed stainless silencer and CB Magnaspark ignition. Additionally the engine bay tin work has been powder coated, and the exhaust heater boxes have been ceramic coated. Since the work at BJ Speed shop the car has covered approximately 250 miles. The underside of the car is in superb condition, and is regularly Waxoyled. I have fitted replacement bumpers and a new drivers seat pad.
The car comes with a full box file of painstakingly recorded history, documenting the car from 1966 to 2025, with all invoices and receipts. Also present are the original VW Service Book and green log book, owners handbook, MOT certificates, Tax Discs, Authentication Certificate from VW, and a CD with over 100 photos of the restoration carried out in 2008.
Although restored and subtly modernised in places, every effort has been made to retain the look and feel of the original car. Ferdy presents beautifully with just the right amount of patina, The car has been shown at many local events and always attracts interest.
There is a great story about the car and the first owner, which is too long to include here. For that and any other information on Ferdy, do please get in touch.
