Description

Arguably THE sports bike of the 90s, this 1996 Yamaha XJR1200 is as close to the rare SP version as is possible. The model code is 4KG which makes this a 1996 model but, for some reason, it is on a 1998 R-plate.
Imported from Japan by BAT Motorcycles in May 2001, this original silver machine was repainted in the iconic Kenny Roberts block colour scheme and remains in extremely good condition.
Acquired from BAT in September 2001 by a very good friend of mine, I bought her from him in 2012 and she has been a reliable and entertaining motorcycle over many tours and local riding and has wanted for nothing in my ownership.
Originally rated at 98bhp, this motorcycle has had a number of upgrades, sympathetically applied to maintain the original good looks of the era. The airbox has been removed and K&N pod filters fitted. The carburettors have been jetted accordingly. To assist breathing, a Black Cat collector is fitted and the exhaust internals modified to aid exhaust gas removal. It sounds throaty ! A rolling road set up when the mods were completed gave a rear wheel horsepower of 122.
As can be seen from the images, Ohlins rear shocks are fitted as well as Brembo front brake callipers and, overall, for a 30-year old bike she’s in remarkably good shape only showing a few battle scars from regular dry use & European touring.
Brand new Michelin Road 6 tyres are fitted, I replaced the oil, filter & plugs and battery and a specialist has just completed a full cylinder head and valve shim check. She is running very well indeed.
The current MOT expires in April 2025.
The current odometer reading is 37, 154 but a good few of these will be kilometres as I fitted a converter at the start of my ownership.
There is a large document file with a lot of MOTs and invoices and I have an original toolkit and a large box of spares along with a Haynes workshop manual.
There are 3 keys and the V5C is in my name.
I’m looking for close offers around the advertised price.
I would urge any prospective buyers to view.
