1967 Mercedes 230sl LHD, 4 speed manual.
Imported from America in August 2020.
Whilst the vehicle arrived running and driving it was in a pretty poor state of tune with the body and paintwork needing considerable attention.
Over the next 4 years the vehicle has been sympathetically restored to produce a very smart, reliable and usable car, whilst retaining an authentic feel.
The work includes:
Injector pump rebuilt and re-calibrated.
Injectors cleaned and tested.
Control linkages and ball joints renewed.
Electronic ignition conversion.
Radiator, water pump and hoses renewed.
Fuel tank cleaned and sealed.
New electronic fuel pump.
Fuel lines replaced.
Sender unit renewed.
Engine and gearbox mounts renewed.
Clutch plate inspected, found to be in good order.
4 new Blockley tyres.
Track rod ends renewed.
Brake servo and master cylinder refurbished.
Exhaust system replaced from downpipes onwards.
Battery replaced.
Front trunnions refurbished.
Vehicle fully serviced.
Floor pans renewed.
RH sill renewed, LH sill repaired.
Front cross member renewed.
Boot floor renewed.
Repairs to front wings and rear arches.
Glass out, bare metal repaint in original Hell Red, including hardtop.
Underside sealed and finished in body coloured Raptor.
All box sections injected with Waxoyl.
Various parts re-chromed including: front and rear bumpers, grill, air intake and trim parts.
Interior is largely original, however a new set of carpets fitted along with some minor repairs. The headlining and the canvas top are original items, whilst still usable they show some signs of use. The headlining has a couple of small holes and the canvas top is worn through on one side where the mechanism folds.
The vehicle is now in very good order from both a cosmetic and mechanical viewpoint. The vehicle drives very well with a relaxed feel from the power assisted steering, solid and reliable Mercedes quality, but with the ability to make good progress when required. It idles and pulls smoothly and keeps a steady temperature even when in heavy, stop start traffic. The cabin and boot are both water tight, so using the vehicle in the rain is of no concern.
The vehicle is registered in my name with an age related number plate, all duties were paid on import. 12 months MOT.
By arrangement the vehicle can be inspected on a ramp.
