Description
Exported new in 1948 to Lanes Garages, Melbourne, (dealer plate is attached inside car), Australia where 5 owners later it was taken off the road in 1964. A painstaking, photographed and fully documented nut and bolt restoration followed, included new wood, full engine rebuild to fast road spec, new gearbox, new steering box, exhaust, finned brake drums, radiator, majority of chrome parts (many receipts included) etc. Interior retrimmed except original leather seats that have a lovely soft patina (the owner felt that the quality was too good to replace, new replacement covers are included). On completion in 2006 the car was put on axle stands in the owners living room where he annually filled the engine with oil up to the oil filler cap to prevent corrosion. Forced to move to a smaller property in 2017 the owner arranged for the car to be exported back to UK to a relative, from whom I bought it privately in 2019. This MG TC drives and handles wonderfully, a delight to drive with everything working correctly. It is in fabulous condition with gorgeous paintwork, some have said "near concourse". Re-commissioning in the UK involved carb overhaul, 4 new 19" wheels and 5 new tyres (car had been on 16" wheels in Aus), master cyl, wheel cyls, brake relining, stainless hoses, stainless exhaust, water pump, spin off oil filter and K & N air filter. A folder of records of running costs and repairs and owners etc. go back to 1953 with the original hand book, tool kit, jack, photos of the rebuild and the last Aus registration document. Since it's rebuild, rightly or wrongly, it has never been driven in the rain and it shows. I'm 80 this year and finding getting in and out rather a problem, so rather than letting the car just looking pretty in the garage it's time for someone else to enjoy a really great car. Please feel free to call me to have a chat about the car, or send an email. I'm open to a sensible offer, thanks, Roland.
