Description
This is a most impressive example of a 1971 Series III Land Rover Firefly L4P Fire Tender.
It is now in search of its next custodian.
Built by ANGUS onto a brand new Series 3 LWB 109" chassis cab in November 1971 . It has the petrol option of the venerable 2¼ ltr. (2286cc) 4 cylinder power plant, which drives both the vehicle and the chassis mounted Godiva pump via a mechanical PTO. The main vehicle is accompanied by and is to remain with it's tender trailer also with a Godiva pump but powered by a Coventry Climax.
The combination is offered complete and will be accompanied by a large and comprehensive variety of ancillary equipment including Hoses and Fittings, with spares, Tools and equipment appertaining to its primary role, along with a selection of Uniforms, boots, jackets Hats overalls etc. There's even a pair of mannequin dressed dummies that were part of the exhibition display.
Even though the Land Rovers’ role in more recent times has been as a display piece , it starts and drives very well. Has very bright and loud "Blues & Twos" and with a light re-commision will be a most unique but equally usable historic vehicle.
From new, it was employed as a private fire tender, Firstly by Leavesden Hospital in Watford and then by AEI cables of Gravesend in Kent until 1981, when it passed into private hands and was road registered for the first time for use on the public highway.
Acorn Classic Automotive Ltd have been tasked by the present enthusiast owner to place the collection for sale.
We have run the engine up to temperature and driven the combination on our own non public roads and can confirm that it drives very well, much as one would expect of a Series Land Rover. We have not attempted to operate the pumps or other fire related equipment but it all looks to be in good order showing no signs of a hard life in service, as one would also expect of an appliance used primarily as a private machine. Any prospective owner must, satisfy themselves as to the work readiness of all equipment.
Any inspection is welcome, reasonable and sensible offers will be considered..
