Early 80’s Ford USA commissioned Shay (later Camelot) to make replicas of the Iconic 1955 Thunderbird to be sold through the US Ford dealer network. In total approx 200 of these were completed. These are full size and use many trim parts from the original 55 tooling. They are virtually indistinguishable from the original. Even the interior is close to the original! Main difference is the running gear. They were built to use 80s Mustang mechanicals. This particular example has the optional 302ci V8 with a reconditioned Holley 4 barrel carb and Truspoke wire wheels. Maintenance and performance should be simpler and cheaper than an original 55. These were factory built cars, not kits, and were sold as Ford Thunderbirds on proper VIN numbers with full Ford warranties. This particular vehicle spent 10 years being a Motor Vehicle Museum exhibit in Spain before being brought to UK.
These cars were originally supplied, like original 55s, with a fixed bench seat. I changed that to independent adjustable seats so people of different heights can get comfortable driving it. The leather seats fitted
