Description

TRIUMPH TR4 1963

The ultimate TR4?

No, that goes to a very talented Pistonheader who built a LS powered TR4 some years ago!

This one is a bit special too - a CP engined 6 cylinder live axle car! Converted in the early 1990s, and used for Rallying in the Paris-Peking, and Monte Carlo rallies. Originally running on triple SUs and pushing out 170 BHP.

Originally built for the US market, it spent its first 28 years in a hot climate. Repatriated in 1990.
Gearbox was converted to a 5-speed Ford type 9 by a previous owner as the torque was too much for the original gearbox and Revington logic overdrive!

At some point in the first decade back in the U. K. it was converted to right hand drive. Metal dash model Red. There are photos of the car online in the past if you look up the registration number.

In 2021, I spent well over £35k with Revington TR; which included a full rewire with rally spec wiring loom, modern fuse boxes, with plenty of spare for additional add-ons -upgraded dual circuit brakes, hard top with backlight and canvas option - built in roll bar. Revington Leather, 2-stage heated rally seats, and a full engine management and fuel injection system courtesy of Emerald.

Fuel system all new including a Revington aluminium long range tank.

The plan was to keep the car, remove all the original StanPart panels - they are all as were installed at the factory in 1963, send them to be dipped and e-coated, and to store in the garage. Replace all panels with aluminium to reduce weight and enjoy it further.

It breaks my heart, as I promised this car to my son when I’m gone, but a house purchase and renovation has revealed tens of thousands of botched building work by the previous occupier.

To much to list, but briefly:

Signal Red
2. 5 TR6 CP engine - stage one and running a standard TR5 camshaft. 176 BHP.

Odometer shows less than 9000 miles, but a documented speedo change indicates 60, 000 miles. Cheaper than a TR5, much faster, more fun to drive than any IRS TR4/ 5/ 6 and built to be driven! Grips like a leach on corners, with hardly any body roll. Surprises all modern traffic away from the lights, and especially in-gear! Sounds fantastic and doesn’t drone on motorway cruising. Had a verified GPS 133 MPH when I lifted off due to lack of front downforce (and courage) on a private runway. Find another one like this.
