Description
Rover p5b 3. 5 litre-a fine example of the coveted classic rover- choice of pms.
fantastic all round original unmolested condition.
all in all, a fantastic big rover p5b 3. 5 litre which is much admired and such a pleasure. Always bringing an instant and enduring smile of pride and satisfaction and represents a piece of british motoring excellence in engineering, craftmanship and history. The choice of prime ministers of the day.
the rover p5b 3. 5 litre was produced from 1967 to 1973. it was the popular choice for british government officials of the day and was also favoured by prime ministers harold wilson and margaret thatcher.
by far the most collectible p5 is the p5b 3. 5-litre v8 which went on sale from 1967. known as the p5b (for its buick-designed v8 engine), the 3. 5-litre model came in saloon and coupe forms with an automatic transmission only. The last p5bs were made until may 1975.
the exquisite styled rover p5b offered here remains very impressive in all respects. The gleaming dove grey over navy blue paintwork is in very good order. there are no dents, scratches, scuffs or blemishes to be found and no evidence of rust/ rot. The chrome work is also good. The car remains wind and watertight. The striking rostyle wheels sit on recently purchased matching tyres with plenty tread including the spare. Over recent years the big rover has been used sparingly, the car is part of a private collection of classics kept and maintained in a heated & fully enclosed water tight environment.
as stated this stunning rover is in super all round original condition. The big p5b drives and stops great, and so spacious and comfortable, turning heads wherever it travels and no wonder given the very few examples now out there and with the car having retained it's original beautiful appearance/ condition and presence..
all body panels are straight and true. There are no dents etc. The gleaming dove grey over navy blue paintwork is in excellent order providing a deep shine. There are no scratches, scuffs or marks. The original rostyle wheels with matching tyres are in great shape as is the chrome work. In essence, this is a truly stunning and rare example of the coveted classic rover p5b 3. 5 litre inappropriately dubbed " the poor man's rolls royce ".
the interior is also in extremely good order in it's original lay out, clean and uncluttered. There are no tears, unsightly scuffs or marks, signs of wear or discoloration. All is in tact, functioning as intended, spacious, comfortable and pleasant to the eye. Indeed, it is a very pleasant place to be.
the chassis and undercarriage is clean and solid in all areas, as are the floor pans etc. There is no evidence of rot/ rust anywhere. The boot - again very clean, solid and un-cluttered.
engine bay - as per the boot.
engine - the engine is reliable, agile and responsive, starts first time of asking every time. It sounds great through the gearbox and exhaust system.
transmission - the automatic gear box is like the engine, agile, responsive and smooth to the change.
brakes - spot on !
full service and oil change undertaken late november 2024. in recent years work done to the car extends to re-conditioning of the gearbox, new torque converter, heads and valves, water pump, petrol tank, sender unit, tyres all round, wyper motor, re-upholstering of the seats and fitting of new carpets.
within the cars file there is a certificate of conformation as issued by " british motor industry heritage trust". there is also a owners manuel and a inventory record of work and parts fitted from october 1988, selection of road tax discs and mot certificates
all in all, this is a fantastic big rover which is much admired and such a pleasure to drive, always bringing an instant and enduring smile of pride and satisfaction. It also represents a piece of british motoring history.
the rover being a 53 year old historic classic vehicle is therefore mot, ulez, congestion and tax exempt.
the p5b was registered in the uk in february 1972 and has had merely 6 keepers in its 53 year history. The rover is part of a private collection and only used sparingly in dry/ warm weather conditions. The car as it presents today, is a credit to it's keepers and the marque. It is also a clear investment opportunity aligned to in-expensive classic car ownership, enjoyment with natural pride of ownership and as stated a piece of british motoring excellence, artistry and history.
current total mileage is 76, 751 miles which equates to 1448 miles for each of the car's years.
