Description
This is one of four Volvo 780s in the UK, designed and largely hand-built by Bertone in Italy for Volvo.
It's in good condition overall, though a few things could do with fixing in the medium term.
The bodywork is excellent with no rust anywhere, probably because it is from Japan. I have had it machine polished and the paint looks great. There is a small tennis ball sized patch below the windscreen where the lacquer has peeled away. There is a crack in the offside indicator unit.
The engine runs well and is strong and smooth. Recent work includes changing the oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, HT leads, as well as cleaning the MAF and throttle body. The coolant has been flushed and changed, and a new thermostat was done at the same time.
The brakes have had an overhaul recently, with a new master cylinder and fluid.
The automatic transmission is good and it has had a recent fluid change.
The suspension is largely good, and it's clear that some parts have been replaced fairly recently. Having said that, the rear Nivomat self-levelling shocks could do with replacing at some point. The best option is with Bilsteins and standard springs, which can be found for around £500 for the pair.
The leather seats are very good. They are heated and electrically operated. The passenger seat does not recline. The dashboard is cracked on the top, because of the Japanese sun I think. The headlining is excellent. It needs a new interior temperature sensor, which can be found in the US for $130 here. The car was imported from Japan about ten years ago, I think. It's a Diners Club International Edition, which is my favourite limited edition badge of any car, though I have no idea what it means (probably nothing).
