History:
The first owner owned collected the car on the 10th of December 2003 and kept the car until the 28th of April 2016.
The second owner was at Rolls Royce Motor Cars. He had been looking for this spec of E39 for some time, seeing it as a high point in BMW model history. He found this one owner car, bought it with 86, 130 miles on the clock, and then went through it to make it perfect (invoices from Rolls Royce on file).
In 2018 he moved to Munich, and the car had to be sold. The idea of owning a car that was faultless was too tempting for the previous owner, so he asked to buy it. He purchased the car in June 2018 with 94, 948 miles.
The car had been a fantastic companion for the previous owner and his family until I purchased it in July 2023 - they were selling as they needed a car which could tow a car trailer.
I have loved owning this car over the last 18 months. It is a joy to drive and it is very reliable. As you will see from the records, I have only driven 10, 000 miles in the last 18 months as I live in central London, and so can't justify owning a car in central London anymore. Exterior:
Finished in metallic silver, there is no rust on any of the arches, with the body very well presented. The wheels show some marks as expected at this age. They are 16" which means the terrible state of our roads
doesn't result in punctures/ damaged rims. It has matching Michelin Cross Climate tyres which transform the usability on a frosty morning.
The main cosmetic blemish are small dimples on the roof of the car. These are not immediately noticeable, but worth pointing out for transparency.
The rear wiper has not worked since before the previous owner owned the car, I have never fixed it as I have never found this to be an inconvenience. The button to open the rear glass still works perfectly.
Interior:
The car has full black leather with no tears, scratches or wear, even on the driver's seat bolsters (another reason SE spec was chosen).
The air conditioning is brilliant, it will keep you cool on the hottest days. It is noticeably much stronger and cooler than the AC in modern cars. Oxford Car Audio fitted an Alpine system in June 2022, so that there is CarPlay and all the benefits that brings. The phone connector is tucked away to the right of the steering wheel. The factory steering
wheel controls are connected to the stereo.
The cruise control works perfectly.
It has the original rear load cover and luggage net, the tool set, the first aid kit and the torch.
In the rear right window, there is a solar panel that charges the battery with a plug fitted for powering equipment if you want to go camping.
The car comes with two sets of original keys.
For those with kids, the rear seats have ISOFIX points
Mechanical/ Service History:
The main bonus here is that the 2. 5i 16 is ULEZ compliant. There is an extensive history, including stamps, invoices and service records.
The last major service was in October 2023, carried out by the excellent BSG Garages Ltd in London (costing £1, 059).
Other significant maintenance points to be aware of:
- Front drop links changes December 2022.
- The radiator, water pump, expansion tank and auxillary fan were replaced in May 2022.
- Bosch ABS control Module and ABS Pump pressure sensor replaced in September 2024.
- Spark plugs and ignition coil pack replaced February 2024.
- Cylinder head cover gasket replaced January 2025.
- The air suspension works perfectly, the previous owner fitted the updated version of the pump.
In summary, this is one of the best built BMW's that has plenty of trouble-free miles left in it, it still looks fantastic, all the potential 'big jobs' have been done and you can drive into the ULEZ zone with Waze helping you avoid the traffic whilst your favourite music plays.
