Description
I have for sale my 1997 Fiat Punto 60s, which I've owned for nearly 5 years.
It's MOT'd until June 2025 but hasn't done much miles since it's last one, and during my ownership it's had no expense spared in regards to maintenance.
Including a full new Valeo clutch kit, and a complete exhaust system and lambda sensors except for the catalytic converter.
Also just over 18 months ago the engine had to have a top end rebuild due to a failure, including new valves, head gasket etc..
And the cambelt, tensioner, water pump and auxiliary belt was replaced as well. There was an oil leak from the cam cover gasket, which is was also replaced with a genuine Fiat one!
I also had replaced the clutch master cylinder, as the original one started leaking.
I've regularly serviced the car myself including oil changes, using genuine Fiat parts were possible or O. E quality parts.
I've got lots of receipts and paperwork from my ownership, and all the original handbooks and some stamped service history from it's early ownership too.
There's three keys including the important red key, I did replace one key as it was broken however the broken key does still start the car and is included.
Interior is clean and tidy with no rips or tears to the upholstery or door cards, carpet is great with no tears or staining. Dashboard and plastics are in good condition, even the parcel shelf is pretty perfect. I did replace the original rear speakers as they had failed, but the car still has it's original working Fiat radio cassette which will be refitted on sale.
Bodywork is very good for the age, there's the odd scratch, minor dents and things you'd expect for a 1997 car that's been used. I did spend a fair amount having the worst parking dings removed by a local paintless dent repair company, who did a fantastic job!
It's also very solid underneath, not rot or major welding has been needed at all.
The only paintwork that needs attention, is the top of the tailgate as the lacquer has failed and the bonnet is starting to go. So would need respraying to make perfect, the front bumper has scuffs and marks which was how I got the car but could be fixed or a replacement bumper fitted.
Also there's a stone chip to the windscreen on the passenger side, this was repaired by Auto glass but is slightly visible and I've tried to picture it as best I can.
The car has a set of 14 inch Fiat Punto alloys fitted currently, and I can supply the original 13 Fiat steel wheels and wheel trims with the car as shown on the photos. Or if you don't want the alloys on the car, I can refit the original wheels and the sell the car for about £200 below the asking price.
All in all it's a great modern classic car, that could be made perfect with a little bit more effort.
It's a reluctant sale but unfortunately I can't really keep the car anymore sadly, however I would possibly consider a swap / part exchange.
Either a 2008 onwards Fiat Panda / Fiat 500 / Fiat Seicento or similar, with the £35 road tax preferably would be ideal. Or a small van like a Fiat Doblo / Fiorino, Vauxhall Combo, Renault Kangoo / Extra van, Citroen Berlingo/ Nemo or Peugeot Partner / Bipper etc.. I've had lots of mk1 Puntos over the years and when this one came up a few years back, well I had to buy it!!
As it's one of the first registered 60s 1. 2 8v models in the UK, when Fiat replaced the Punto 55 1. 1 8v.
If you want a basic an easy to maintain economical 90's car, that you could use everyday and parts are still available for you'd be struggling to do better than this!
I've used the car daily and it's very practical that's what I like best about it, the rear seats fold and the boot has plenty of room for everyday use.
Plus if you want to do long journeys it's got enough get up and go to keep up with motorway traffic, or around town driving and country roads.
I do have people come up to me and say I used to have one of those!! it's that's sort of car and hopefully someone can make some memories of there own with this one.
