Description
For sale is a 2000MY Audi A8 (D2) 3. 7 Quatro Automatic in grey. It is being sold as SPARES OR REPAIR as it currently has no MOT and needs some work in order to pass (read below).
General
MOT Expired 02. 2020
Mileage: 135831
Engine Power: 260PS
Transmission: 5 Speed Auto
The vehicle has 3 owners. Last owner purchased the car in 11. 2004 at approximately 62000 miles from Audi main dealer. The retired couple used it mainly as holiday tourer with relatively low annual miles.
The vehicle was SORN since 2020 (Covid) and unfortunately not been used since.
The vehicle was well maintained and always had Genuine service parts and oils, good quality tyres (Michelin). Recently before it was parked it had an ABS module at a £1000+ cost and a new Genuine Audi Catalytic converter again at a huge expense.
As you can tell by the state of the bodywork and interior even at age of 25 and after 4 years of being parked up it still looks ok. This is because it was washed polished and vacuumed and the leather interior maintained regularly when in use.
THE CAR CAN NOT BE DRIVEN OR TOWED AWAY AND NEEDS TO BE TRAILERED
It is entirely up to you what you do with the vehicle if you purchase it. It can be broken for parts but will be a shame as it is a future classic and there are very few of them left. It is from that older generation of cars where they became comfortable but also safe and reliable. Being an aluminum body you do not need to deal with corrosion. The vehicle can be repaired and used as a daily driver or brought to a showroom condition. I wish I had the time...
I would prefer if anybody interested in the car comes to view it so you know what you are buying. Please message me if you have any other questions. The good bits:
This is a complete, genuine, authentic vehicle (apart from the removed battery). You are not buying somebody else's project.
The bodywork does not have any dents or deformations - with only one tiny ding (around 10 mm diameter) on rear left wing I suspect caused by someone opening a door into it - the paint has not been disturbed so not easy to photograph and only noticeable when inspected very closely.
The interior is in good condition for the age (with one exception - see the bad bits below). The back seats have not been used often.
The engine starts and idles well.
The transmission shifted well when last driven on the road 4 years ago - clearly unable to test this now.
The 17 inch alloys still look amazing.
The vehicle was serviced regularly and always had anything needed with no expense spared although there is no proper service record apart from a pile of service parts receipts from TPS. The records were unimportant to the owners as the vehicle was never intended to be sold on and was going to remain in the family. It was more important to be an absolutely reliable motorway cruiser.
It has a detachable towbar.
It has a Blue tooth Parrot kit enabling handsfree Phone connection and music.
It has a TrafficMaster SmartNav installed but the subscription is expired.
2 keys
The electric features (including the sunroof) that I tested work. The stereo is in SAFE mode due to disconnected battery, the code is in the documents folder but I am not sure how to type it in.
The build and finish quality on this A8 D2 generation seem impressive. We have several other newer Audis in the extended family and I doubt any of them will feel as good at 25 years of age if they make it to this.
The bad bits:
Was planning to MOT the car before selling it but one of the springs broke whist we moved the vehicle on the drive and punctured the tyre - it had to be replaced by a solid block so the car can be moved. Upon examination it became apparent that the other 3 coil springs are fractured - the forum community on D2 suggest this is common on these cars at this age. We did notice that whilst the car was stored it gradually started looking as if it was lowered. Fortunately all 4 springs are still available to buy from Bilstein.
The vehicle battery was removed in 2020 and kept on charge but eventually died and was discarded.
The hydraulic pressure hose from the Power steering pump to rack developed a leak when the vehicle was started and moved this week. The power steering does not work. Again the forums suggest this is a common fault. Genuine hoses may be available or Pirtek can make one.
The brake system will need attention as the vehicle was sat for 4 years and the brake pedal feels soft - despite having new discs and pads all around quite recently prior to this.
Whilst the tyres have plenty of thread they need replacing as they are cracked due to age.
For some reason the rear doors can not be opened from the outside.
The exterior of the vehicle has some cosmetic scuffs - mainly on the bumpers but also on the plastic trim on the rear passenger door. Some of this will polish out but the bumpers may need a bit more than this. There is also discoloration under the plastic protection film in front of the rear wheels (see pictures). I have seen this on other A8s so maybe moisture gets between the paint and film and it needs pealing off.
There is some minor paint defects on rear driver side wing. I am not sure what from as the vehicle has never had any body repair whilst in the family in the last 20 years.
The lower part of the front bumper trim has been cracked and attempted to be patched. The car has a long front overhang and easy to catch on curbs when parking.
The interior trim on the driver side B pillar is worn (see picture).
The roof lining is in good structural state (not sagging) but will need cleaning due to the time the vehicle has been sat unused.
The interior and exterior generally need a good clean and a polish - I only washed it quickly to take pictures so you can see what you are buying.
Disclaimer:
Whilst I am trying to be as honest as possible for the condition of the vehicle there may be things I have missed. The vehicle can not be driven in the current state so it is impossible to check everything. I do not own a vehicle lift to inspect or photograph the components underneath. Please be mindful you are buying a 25 year old car and many of the individual components are original and will have wear and tear. Whilst the body is aluminum, other parts are not - like subframes etc. From what I can see they do have surface corrosion as expected at this age but I can not inspect them properly for anything structural. The rubber part of the suspension, engine and transmission mounts are also 25 year old.
