Description
1974 Allegro 1500SDL 2 door. Damask Red with Spanish Rose interior.
Other than the later Equipe, the E-series engine was only available in the 2 door shell for approximately one year at the start of production. This is the only 1500 2 door currently known to the club (there was one other but that hasn’t been seen or heard of for a number of years).
Bought in mid 2023 and recommissioned after around 20 years off the road it is now solid, albeit more than slightly scruffy, and drives pretty well with a very sweet engine. Although MOT exempt it has a valid MOT until March 2025, which can be renewed by negotiation.
New parts fitted include all brake hoses and wheel cylinders, all coolant hoses, clutch, re-cored radiator and various small odds and ends.
Bodywork has had some welding both before and during my ownership, but not too much by Allegro standards. There is still plenty of scope for improvement; there are numerous dings and dents, the front wing tips have been repaired with filler and the paintwork is flat/ patchy (the photos are flattering).
The interior has the usual missing steering column cowl (the club are investigating having new ones 3D printed), and under the covers the seats have done the usual S1 cloth insert disintegration.
All electrics work including the somewhat large (and manually operated) reversing light!
Currently on Princess/ Ambassador wheels with excellent 175/ 65/ 14 tyres (including spare) as shown in the photos. It also comes with its original wheels (all need new tyres) but only two hubcaps.
Located 8 miles from either Wisbech or Downham Market on the Norfolk/ Cambridgeshire border.
