1983 Honda CX 500

Honda CX 500 ‘Special’ unique model hand customised by a professional in racing café style. A beautiful fully functional motorbike, used only for display purposes. When designing a ‘special’, one is inspired by something or someone. This is the case with this 1983 Honda CX that seems to change habits by jumping back in time a couple of decades from the date of manufacture. A tribute to racing and to one of the most representative characters of the 1960s and 1970s, Steve McQueen. An evocative potential that is put on the road with finishes and details poised between the ‘café racer’ genre and superbikes. Simple and well matched colours on a black background and gold frames, for a bike to admire and use, certain not to go unnoticed. The two mufflers, made of welded and properly curved tubing, are silenced from the inside without the addition of tailpipes, to maintain a certain shape and enhance the ‘iron’ of which they are made. The sound emitted by the exhausts is cavernous, with a racing motorbike tone of yesteryear.

The 4-valve overhead twin with 80° transverse V-valve, developing a displacement of 496 cc, keeps its manufacturing characteristics intact and this ‘special’ enhances its architecture. Polished, almost mirror-like parts on black mechanical castings provide the right colour match. Five-speed gearbox for a shaft final drive. Conical filters for the two 35 mm Keihin carburettors, which in addition to providing more pull, give lightness to an honest liquid-cooled ‘twin’, with few horses (only 47), but real ones, which at 6, 500 rpm do not deviate too much from the performance of modern engines.

Quando si progetta una "special", ci si ispira a qualcosa o a qualcuno. E' il caso di questa Honda CX del 1983 che sembra cambiare abitudini facendo un salto a ritroso nel tempo di un paio di lustri rispetto alla data di fabbricazione. Un omaggio alle corse e ad uno dei personaggi più rappresentativi degli anni '60-'70, Steve McQueen. Un potenziale evocativo che viene messo in strada con finiture e particolari in bilico tra il genere "cafè racer" e le superbike. Colori semplici e ben abbinati su fondo nero e cornici oro, per una moto da ammirare e usare, certi di non passare inosservati.
Il bicilindrico 4 valvole in testa a V 80° trasversale, che sviluppa una cilindrata di 496 cc., mantiene intatte le sue caratteristiche costruttrici e questa "special" ne esalta l'architettura. Parti lucide, quasi a specchio, su fusioni meccaniche nere danno il giusto abbinamento cromatico. Cambio a cinque marce per una trasmissione finale a cardano. Filtri conici per i due carburatori Keihin da 35 mm, che oltre a fornire maggior tiro, danno leggerezza ad un onesto "twin" raffreddato a liquido, con pochi cavalli (solo 47), ma veri, che a 6. 500 giri/ min non si scostano troppo dalle prestazioni dei motori moderni. Le due marmitte, in tubo saldato e curvato a dovere, sono silenziate dall'interno senza aggiunta di terminali, per mantenere una certa forma ed esaltare il "ferro" di cui sono fatte. Il suono emesso dagli scarichi è cavernoso, con una timbrica da moto da corsa d'altri tempi.

Immatricolabile solo fuori Italia (Es. Svizzera, Germania, ecc...) Splendido oggetto da esposizione a ogni livello.
