2006 Mercedes C Class C55 AMG

Up for sale is an immaculate and rare 2006 C55 AMG (W203) in Obsidian Black with black leather and only 45, 000 miles.

The C55 is a rare thing among modern ‘new timer’ AMGs with only about 4000 made worldwide in a fairly short production window towards the latter half of the W203’s lifecycle. The C55 replaced the C32 with a simple and effective formula by shoehorning an AMG developed and stroked 5. 4-litre V8 version of the famously uncomplicated and reliable M113 engine into the smallest Mercedes saloon. However, the nose of the car had to be lengthened to accommodate the V8 using the W209 CLK architecture. With 367bhp and 376lb ft of torque the C55 delivered big punch with 0-62mph in 4. 7 seconds and effortless in-gear shove.

This 2006 model year example was sold new in Japan and imported into the UK in March 2023 with approximately 42, 000 miles on it. I purchased it from specialist Mercedes dealer in March 2024 with 43, 471 miles and the odometer currently shows 45, 277 miles. It has the usual high specification with climate control, electric memory heated front seats, auto xenon headlamps, folding mirrors etc.

Being a Japanese-sourced C55 where cars live in a much kinder climate without road salt and with considerably stricter tests, this C55 is in A1 condition. The bodywork is unmarked and the interior is immaculate. The wheels are perfect and have matching Bridgestone Potenza tyres all round showing adequate tread although the latest MoT shows advises there is slight cracking on the shoulders of both rear tyres. Both Xenon headlamp beams were also adjusted correctly during the MoT. History shows both rocker cover gaskets were replaced in April 2023 plus the oil cooler rings and seals and a new V-belt fitted (all by Mercedes-Benz Gatwick).

The underside is in excellent condition with zero corrosion, and everything works on the car. The driving experience is spot-on with a firm reassuringly sporty ride but with a lovely blend of refinement on the motorway and always underwritten by the hammer-like response of the mighty V8.
The COMAND system was replaced by the specialist Mercedes dealer with an up-to-date Dynavin unit that features CarPlay, DAB radio, Bluetooth hands-free, music streaming and touch-screen sat nav etc.
