1990 Peugeot 205 GTI

Reluctant sale of my Peugeot 205 GTi 1. 6

Registered in April 1990 by Mayfield Peugeot in Halifax - this great little car was in it's original ownership for 25 years.

The history file with the car is simply amazing; from the original order form and invoice, stamped service book and pretty much every receipt for works carried out by the Robertsons during their ownership. I have corresponded with the original owners who confirmed how much they cherished the car and that it was used for Mrs Robertsons commute to work until she retired. I have owned a few classic cars over the years; and I can honestly say I have never seen a more comprehensive history and back story making it as genuine as it could be.

During the Robertsons ownership; Corgi issued a Vanguard model of the 205 which was based on this very car; and even displays the number plate making this quite a unique vehicle.

I have owned the car since 2018 and I am simply not using it. The MOT expired in September 2024 and since the year previous the car has travelled less than 200 miles. I was intending to wait until the spring when the salt is off the road to get the car serviced and MOT'd - but I have decided to attempt to sell it now so someone else can get it ready to use over the summer. If any genuine buyer is interested in the car; I am happy to get it MOT'd so they can drive it home.

The car presents really well, It is by no means concourse and has the odd blemish! It has definitely had various bits of paint over the years but remains in my opinion very original.

The interior is also in good overall condition. The seat bolster on the drivers side having at sometime been replaced and the black fabric on the bolsters is thin but holding in there! The dash is in good condition with no fading and everything works as is it should; including the original cassette radio. The sunroof works perfectly with no leaks. The gear knob is tatty and could be replaced (they are about £30 on ebay).

I have only ever replaced one tyre; so I assume they really need replacing this year - again if I still own it in the spring I will get these changed.

Overall; this is a very useable GTi that still turns heads wherever you go. Please remember it is 35 years old and therefore not perfect; but overall if you want a very useable car with a truly exceptional history I would highly recommend this one.

Any inspection is welcome; I am based in Henley in Arden in Warwickshire. I had searched for a GTi that I could enjoy for about 12 months - I viewed 5 cars in total and this was by far the best. By far the best part of the car is the provenance which made me feel that whatever I decided to spend on the car I would always get back because it was so genuine. I have really enjoyed owning the car but lack of use owing to a change in my personal circumstances over the last couple of years means it is time to let someone else enjoy it!
