Description
This Austin 7 Special, affectionately referred to as “Kiwi” not surprisingly has spent a great deal of time in New Zealand. However, it has been in a private Connecticut collection since 2008, after being purchased from a respected collector in New York state. In 2009 it underwent $5, 780. 77 worth of mechanical work performed by Austin Works East of Massachusetts. The crank was tested and ground, and the block machined and magnafluxed. Speedy sleeves and lip seals were installed, while new rods were poured and the sump and oil tube were powder coated.
By 2012 it sat unused for a year and was brought to a highly regarded Connecticut shop to be assessed and gone over. The gas tank was drained, the fuel filter replaced as well as some brittle fuel hoses. The carburetor was disassembled and cleaned, while new longer reach sparkplugs installed (getting the electrode deeper into the combustion chamber) which enhanced running. The radiator was removed, flushed, boiled and tested. One leaking freeze out plug was replaced and the head was re-torqued. The seats and carpet were removed, and a new carpet set was installed. The completed work totaled to $3, 496. 69
In the following years Kiwi was driven sparingly, residing amongst several other Austin 7s of various body styles. Brooklands style screens are included in the sale, but have not been installed. With over $9, 200 of work performed it would appear that Kiwi has had all of the heavy lifting done. At this time, the car has been in heated storage for two years and will just require a straight forward “waking up”.
This vehicle is being sold on a Connecticut Registration and Q1 bill of sale, as Connecticut is a “no title” for antique automobiles.
