Capots Vintage, a specialist in sports and classic vehicles in Lyon, is offering for sale a 1969 Jaguar E2A Evocation: The Jaguar E2A, a unique 1960 prototype, marked the evolution between the three-time Le Mans-winning Jaguar D-Types and the famous E-Types. Designed by Malcolm Sayer, it was used as a laboratory to test independent rear suspension before being entrusted to Briggs Cunningham to race at Le Mans and in SCCA competition in the USA. Driven by legends such as Dan Gurney and Bruce McLaren, the original E2A remains a symbol of innovation and performance. This inspiration of the E2A was carried out between 2018 and 2020 by HH Services in Strasbourg, under the direction of Hubert Haberbusch, a world-renowned master craftsman in the art of car body restoration. With over 40 years' experience, Mr Haberbusch is renowned for his exceptional expertise in restoring iconic and prestigious vehicles, having worked on legendary marques such as Bugatti, Ferrari, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar, as well as iconic cars from the Schlumpf Museum in Mulhouse. This car features a bespoke aluminium body, faithful to the original design, albeit left-hand drive, with a white and blue livery in the colours of the Cunningham stable. Details such as the louvred bonnet and bubble lights give this model an authentic and unique charm. In 2023, Hubert Haberbusch became the first master sheet metal worker to be made a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the preservation of automotive heritage. Under the bonnet, a fully restored 4. 2-litre XK six-cylinder engine, fed by three SU carburettors, offers power and reliability. The transmission is a synchronised four-speed manual gearbox. The independent suspension with adjustable shock absorbers and disc brakes with four-piston callipers guarantee excellent road holding and braking. The functional interior features two fixed aluminium bucket seats trimmed in black leather by Sellerie André. The dashboard, door panels and centre tunnel are clad in matching materials, while four-point harnesses ensure safety. A three-spoke wood steering wheel and Smiths instruments complete the interior. This model is fitted with genuine period Lister-Jaguar wheels with central knock-off, which are true works of art, a stainless steel exhaust system, and a Tripmaster Halda Speedpilot.
