Description

What a car we have here! Believed to be the only example with this specification in existence. 1986 Volkswagen Golf GTI 8v BBS Edition Turbo Technics conversion. You might be familiar with Turbo Technics, prior to the boom in forced induction vehicles Turbo Technics were THE place to take your vehicle in the 80's for added performance. The first keeper purchased this Golf in 1986, immediately took the offer from the supplying VW dealer for the optional BBS edition body kit (super rare and incredibly expensive at the time). Once completed he then booked the Golf in with Turbo Technics for the turbo conversion on the original engine, the Golf left the Turbo Technics factory 11th of August 1986. Of that era the main Turbo Technics converted cars were Fords (Fiesta's / Orion's/ Escort's ect) but there are a small number of MK2 Golf GTI's that had the conversion carried out, complete with the Turbo Technics plaque on the front slam panel. He owned, loved and cared for this Golf from 1989 right up until 2011 where it was sold to its one and only other owner up to present day. The current keeper followed in the same vein, incredible service record with over £30k spent in the last 13 years.

The original owners handbooks, owners manual, owners wallet and original service book with 24 service stamps. Enormous hard backed binder that contains well over 100 pages of service invoices and parts replacement invoices. In 2014 the Golf was subject to a complete engine re-build by CFM Engineering to the tune of £10, 000! This included; forged G60 pistons, custom cam, vernier pulley, OMEX ECU, original Turbo Technics manifold, re-built original Garret T3 turbo, original Turbo Technics intercooler, custom stainless exhaust and a large aluminum radiator. Other additions include; Bilstein shocks with eibach springs, eibach anti roll bars, Audi S2 front brake calipers, MK4 Golf rear calipers, welded up wishbones, re-bushed all round, Compomotive alloy wheels with a full set of Nankang NS2R semi-slick tyres. The gearbox was also rebuilt and fitted with a Wavtrac LSD 3k miles ago. Bar from a coupld of additional gauges the interior is completely original, just how it should be.

In addition to all of the above, we have just had the Golf professionally tuned on a rolling road by a local specialist to a safe 191bhp and 256nm torque. This included an engine flush, oil service and full day on the dyno with 35 power runs and multiple road tests to really dial it in. I have included photo's of the dyno sheet and a typed up version of all the service records from 2011. The Golf has a new MOT which runs until January 2026 with no advisories issued, I have included an underside shot in the photos, she is very clean underneath for the age. If you check the MOT's you'll see 2 mileage discrepancies, this is logged and listed in the paperwork, the 160mph speedo now shows its true mileage of 109, 000 miles. To drive? Absolutely exhilarating! I've owned many MK2 Golf's over the years in various different states of tune, but this is a different level without losing its identity. If you drive it sensibly, it has all the characteristics that everyone knows and loves about the classic MK2 Golf. But, push it harder up into the rev range and get the turbo on boost it turns into a bit of a monster! Pulls really well up to 6k rpm, super linear power delivery, very usable power band and due to the Wavetrac LSD gearbox you can actually put the power down. No power steering is a bonus with this early model, more feedback and nimble in the turns with better road manners. Due to having top notch suspension and not cheap coil overs she handles the bumps well, its not taxing to drive normally on our roads. Suffice to say she starts, idles, accelerates, handles and brakes all as you would expect, and dare I say better. This isn't your '1. 8T 20v swap in a shed' type car, this has the pedigree and the paperwork to back it all up.

The bodywork is in really good shape for its age and miles, no nasty dents or unsightly scratches to mention, a few age related marks here and there as to be expected but always turns a few heads driving down the road or arriving at car shows. Paintwork is very good, no sun fade or lacquer peel, the bright red paintwork retains its glossy shine all round and really looks and eyeful in the sun. Underside is in good order as well, no rust to mention nor does she need any welding, now issued with a new MOT with no advisories. Sills, jacking points, boot floor, battery tray, inner wings, scuttle etc all in commensurate condition. The interior is in fine fettle, no rips or tears to the upholstery, carpets, headlining or trim, the headlining isnt sagging like most, sunroof works as it should, is fitted with factory electric front windows (drivers is a little slow).

So there we are! Certainly a one off chance to own such a vehicle, I severely doubt another will come along any time soon if at all. 1986 Volkswagen Golf GTI Type 19 MK2 8v BBS Edition Turbo Technics, genuine 2 owner car, more service history than i've ever seen, 24 stamps in the original book, full engine build with forged pistons and OMEX ECU, recently rolling road tuned, dyno print out, fresh oil service, new MOT with no advisories, magazine featured with the magazine in the service history. This is as 'factory' as you can get with this performance with all the paperwork / plaque / build number to show. This isn't your average 18t 20v swap, this is a bit special. Well worth travelling to view, we certainly don't think you will be disappointed. I have lots of photos and walk around video's I can send via whatsapp to prospective customers.
