This car was rescued from long term storage in poor condition by the previous owner who began the restoration. It had been used as a track car and never registered with the DVLA, who when in 1992 were presented with proof of the age and identity of the car accepted its date of manufacture as 1965 and issued it with an age related registration. The car is known to the Historic Register and its identity is accepted as uncontested. The car comes with copies of original factory build card, factory sales docket, Lotus Cars record of sale.
I bought the car from the previous owner who had a number of projects underway and despite having sent this car back to Arch Motors (the original chassis maker) for substantial chassis repairs and a complete re panel had run out of steam with this Lotus. The Lotus 7 is true to the original Chapman concept of an exciting road car and weekend racer. I bought the car to complete the restoration to a very high standard in a form that would be road friendly and could compete in the HSCC Roadsports class and many historic sprints and hillclimb events, it's ideal for Angouleme. It has all the benefits of a light weight agile sports road/ race car with benign handling that delivers real enjoyment, nothing gets you closer to the action than this.
The correct pre crossflow 1500 engine, 40 dcoe webers, gearbox and differential have all been rebuilt by leading specialists (Alan Sherwood engine). alloy radiator, English Ford rear axle to cope with increased power. Original and rare lamiplate dash and interior panels.
The car comes with an upholstered single seat for any competition use together with a strut brace for the roll bar and a side impact bar. The car carries a current HSCC vehicle identity form. The mileage recorded on the speedo cannot be guaranteed. Age related tax and MOT exempt.
