Description

First registered in Sep 2003. I believe this must have been a dealer demo car originally as the second owner acquired the vehicle in Jan 2004. They kept the car for nearly 20 years as I purchased it in Jun 2023.

Service history is partial. Original service book is missing, but I have paperwork for at least 5 services spanning 2k to 61k as well as the work I've had done and the most recent MOT's. Current MOT is to 19/ 06/ 25.

During the time I have had the car, I have replaced the discs and pads, replaced the battery, sorted the tracking and replaced all 4 wheels. The new wheels are identical to the originals, 2 of which were buckled. I do still have the 2 unbuckled originals and will include these as spares, if wanted. They are quite rare as they are the Volvo BBS optional alloys - I had to drive to Glasgow to get them!

I think the car is in pretty good condition for the age. There are a few scuffs and dings, as would be expected after nerly 22 years on the road.

The interior is tidy, with the only cosmetic issue of note being a couple of marks on the side panels in the rear seats. I think these must be where the wind deflector has rubbed against the trim. The deflector is included, but I've never used it as my kids are usually sat in the back and it completely covers the rear seats.

The radio works and I have the code. There is a 3-CD changer built into the head unit. The speakers do sound a bit flat after 22 years, but fine for radio listening. I am generally enyoying the exhaust note so don't often have the radio on.

Everything else works as it should. This is the top spec model so has plenty of extra features. Even though it is a convertible, it is still perfectly usuable in winter with heated seats and mirrors. I've always loved Volvo's of the 80's and 90's and find the 96-04 C70 to be one of the most handsome. I was very keen to get a top-spec GT model with the BBS wheels and a T5 engine. This one was in great condition for the age and I was particularly drawn to it as it had spent all but it's first 4 months with the same owner before me.

I've owned another, later 2. 5 T5 Volvo before and found it very flat-sounding. There's something very special about the earlier 2. 3 T5's and they sound fantastic when pushed and subtly burbling when not.

This is a cruiser, rather than a sports car. It is lovely and comfortable, even on longer journeys and encourages you to drive smoothly, but will still surprise you with it's turn of speed if you decide to bury the throttle on a nice, straight road.

Finally, it's a very usable, practical car. I have 2 small children (7 & 9), with car seats and had no problem getting them in the back, thanks to the isofix points. The boot is also much larger than you'd expect for a convertible. If you drive it carefully, it is even quite economical. 40mpg is easily acheived on longer journeys. I've only ever used super-unleaded during my ownership, but this hasn't proved too expensive thanks to the great mpg.
