Description

A 1939 BSA Goldstar M24 (no. KM24 245) ; a myth. The first from this brand having received this great name, preceded by the Empire Star, at the origin of the story. It was Wal Handley, in 1937 on the Brooklands circuit, who, riding a BSA Empire Star, completed a memorable lap of the circuit, at more than 100 mph, and thus won the famous medal called Gold Star. The firm then gave this name to the M24, and afterward to the popular series 32 (350cc) until 1962, and 34 (500cc) until 1956.

The M24 is pure Birmingham Small Arms ! Homogeneous, easy, efficient, and particularly powerful for its time. Extremely rare today, it stands out by its surprising engine. Unlike the Handley prototype, this one receive as standard a cylinder head with valve seat inserts, and an aluminum cylinder lined with cast iron. Its designer, Val Page, paid particular attention to weight savings, using light alloys wherever possible, even employing magnesium for the gearbox casings of the first version.
