Dutton Mariner S2 Amphibious Car

As I have been driving amphibious cars for decades now, it is hard for me to explain to you the pure exhilaration of driving one of these ultimate head turners on the road and then get you to try to imagine driving your road car down the beach or a slip way and into the water and cruise off - Believe me it is beyond amazing and bonkers all at the same time, its a whole new dimension to driving and boating adventure and relaxation all rolled into one!

But the downside is it is very hard to acquire an amphibious car these days especially at this sort of price.

This is a Dutton Mariner S2 based on the 1800 Ford Fiesta Diesel. It features a full GRP monocoque so zero rust worries. It has a UA Water Jet drive which is hydraulically powered. This jet unit has a built in steering nozzle (rudder controlled by steering wheel) and a reverse bucket. It will cruise at a displacement speed of around 6 knots.

I have been involved with amphibious vehicles now for some 37 years and was responsible for the TopGear amphibious cars and many other very famous amphibs. I have to keep reminding myself that as I have now retired, my amphibious cars are just a hobby and I cannot do everything anymore hence the decision to let this one go. I acquired this Mariner earlier last year. It had been stored in France for many years and sadly was very much unloved. I have done a lot to this car since I have had it and have also spent a lot of money on it as well. I was hoping to get it ready for the Henley on Thames boat festival later this year to accompany two other amphibs that I hope to be taking (perhaps you can take this one?). Yes, it needs some work doing to it hence the price. The good news though is that it is up and running and sounds ok and will drive. So, what needs doing?
The new rubbing strake needs to be riveted on and the mechanics ideally need a proper service as per the manufacturers recommendations to include all oils/ filters/ belts etc - Brakes will also need a service (I think one caliper is somewhat sticky but at around £30 for a recon caliper it makes sense to renew both with pads!). It also needs new wiper blades fitting (supplied), the handbrake needs bolting back down (new flooring has been fitted and it hasnt been replaced) and it will need new rear seat belts. There will be other bits n bobs I'm sure but basically, it all needs a good going through to ensure its good for an MOT and the BSS and to ensure everything is safe and reliable and you will be good to go and with an increased value asset to boot. Remember, this car is basic nut & bolt mechanics and not a modern day electronic nightmare!

I know that there is going to be plenty of interest from our Euro friends for this car at this price and I am happy to assist with exporting but only in a way relating to my availability for collection and loading etc so please do not ask me anything else about prices and any legalities etc because I simply wont know, sorry.......
