Description
Here is my 1949 Tiger 100, Despatched to Barton Motors, Bristol on the 2nd August 1949 the bike retains the original registration, engine and frame, matching factory records. The gearbox however, is not the original it left the factory with. I bought this from a private collection April 2022. It had been sat in a barn in France, previous owner bought it from a dealer in 2016 for £9000 and there remained, unridden until I purchased it! Sadly, whilst in the barn, a beam fell from the rafters and dented the tank! I've come to live with this as part of its history, A good metal worker could possibly pull the dent, it's not something I've had quoted, or been bothered by. The bike has 5 former keepers and I have the V5 in my name, registered as historic, so no road tax and MOT exempt. Insure, and you're away. Never been officially exported / imported, always been on a UK V5.
MHU 165 1949 T100
frame: TF32570
engine: T100 9 112091
gearbox: TE 108845
I have had the BTH magneto fully rebuilt by Chip in Letchworth, auto advance fitted so no timing adjustments needed. I have also fitted a brand new, later model carburettor, as the old one was beyond saving (top cap cross threaded and held on with a woodscrew). I have also replaced the clutch pressure plate, clutch pushrod, HT leads and tyres (ones on it were marked with WD for war department and had interesting handling characteristics...) Among other things that escape me right now, the usual servicing has been undertaken, oil, plugs etc. I have fitted LED bulbs throughout to take the load off the charging system. and a pair of new 6 volt batteries in the batt box, have also gone through the dynamo, new brushes and a clean up. I also made a re-useable rubber primary case gasket. Given everything a general going over as and when needed.
I have ridden this bike at night quite a few times and the LED bulb is a ten fold improvement! It has a few negatives, the dent in the tank, and the trip meter reset on the smiths speedo does not work (you have to take the headlight out to get to it mind!) the odometer does work however. The paintwork is OK, some micro-blistering so the bike has been restored at some point possibly, I don't know! All the pinstriping looks Original, possibly just the tins that have been re-painted some time ago? I'd hazard the tank and wheel rims could be factory but I've never even seen another in the flesh so am not an expert.
Always gets a good reception wherever I go with it, and it has been ridden, not stashed at the back of a garage gathering gremlins. Lovely looking bike, and first year of the Triumph Nacelle. Bike will come with the pillion seat pictured, I took it off as it looks much better without it, and there are no pillion pegs anyway!
All in all, a great riding machine that takes you back in time, I love it, but I am purchasing a property and need the money to go towards that.
Bank transfer on collection from Bedford preferred, cash is OK but I dread having to explain it to the property solicitor!
Any questions then fire away. I do have a few videos of the bike being ridden.
Thanks for looking, happy bidding!
