Description
MG BGT Mild Sebring Fast Road Spec 1860cc
Owned this car for last 6 years, following extensive bare bones restoration. Details of the restoration below. Car in great running condition, paint work is in ok condition with a few small blemishes and cracks. As seen in pics.
Car been sat in garage for last few years with just the occasional run out to blow off cobwebs. Selling due to lack of use. Not a V8 but a nicely tuned 1. 8 to a high spec. Good sounding exhaust, with Overdrive it cruises along nicely. Bumper less front and rear to give the Sebring race look.
5 Main Bearing engine and overdrive gearbox with OD in 3rd and 4th only.
Engine built to fast road spec Stage2 , all machining work was carried out by Connaught Competition Engines just outside of Sittingbourne.
Crank was reground to -10 thou and zero balanced to less than 3 grams end to end, then front pulley was attached then rebalanced, flywheel was skimmed to new smooth surface then attached to crank and balanced again then finally clutch assembly was added and then final balance
The conrods were lightened by 60 grams each and end balanced in pairs then the new pistons were fitted to each rod using push fit small ends. Pistons are + 40 thou giving a capacity of 1860cc and were balanced to within 1 gram.
The block was put on a cnc machine and checked then skimmed by 6 thou on the head face, then new cam bearings were pressed in to place in the block. A new Piper BP270 camshaft was supplied and checked in the block.
Cylinder head was done by CTM Performance in East London and was stripped and crack tested then unleaded valve seats were fitted to exhaust ports (not needed on inlet ports as they run a lot cooler than exhaust side) then larger exhaust valves and new inlet valves, new double valve springs and new valve seals. Head was then fully ported and gas flowed to flow approx. 35-40% more air which means 40% more fuel and therefore 40% more power. Estimated to be around 135bhp at the flywheel and around 95hp at rear wheels.
Carbs are fully rebuilt SU HIF4’s with K&N filters and 2 stage richer needles which are AAA, earlier throttle discs and new disc shafts are fitted to improve air flow. Inlet manifold was also gas flowed to match cylinder head and port matched to head.
Gaz adjustable gas dampers all around set to softest setting on rear and 4 clicks up from softest on front.
Front has 1” lower and stiffer springs and rear leaf springs use a 1” lowering block to drop ride height back down to earlier model levels, new extended axle clamps were fitted. All new bushes to front suspension and wishbones.
New starter motor, Oil Pump, alternator and water pump fitted.

Distributor has been programmed with a rev limiter at 6, 000rpm, this will cut every other
spark to protect engine. Engine should comfortably rev to 6, 500rpm on the Piper cam but
not a lot extra to be gained at those revs and you tend to be quicker using the mid range
torque around 3-4, 500rpm.
Switch on dash for 2 different ignition advance maps on the 123 distributor.
Lots of original spare parts, paperwork, books etc included.
