The last of the Mk1 Gti’s before they became the run out “Campaign Edition”. This very rare 1983 U. K right hand drive non sunroof model in its original Mars Red no2 is in beautiful condition inside, outside and underneath. The seats have been re trimmed in the correct material sourced from VW and the engine has been professionally inspected with the following done,- head removed to inspect bores ( all good ). Valves paraffin leak tested ( all good ), head replaced with new gasket and bolts. Valve clearances checked ( all good and tight ), all cylinders compression tested ( all good and healthy). Engine coolant refilled using Evan’s Waterless Engine Coolant. This engine check was done as two master VW mechanics advised not to rebuild these engines unless absolutely necessary as they are so good. She has a couple of choice upgrades which include a rear disc brake conversion, dramatically improving stopping performance, Goodrich stainless steel brake hoses, stainless steel fuel hoses, larger core ignition leads and a very tasteful perforated leather covered steering wheel with matching red and orange stitching.
Sitting on period correct Pirelli Cinturato P4 tyres her stance is spot on and wanting for nothing. The engine bursts vigorously into life pulling with ease, flicking through her 5 speed gearbox smoothly thanks to a new clutch kit. And don’t forget to turn on the perfectly functioning radio cassette which is on a snatch plate and listen to a bit of your favourite 80’s music!Having only 3 long term owners from new makes this an appealing purchase, but the best things about this car is it’s the last of the true Gti’s as it is not a Campaign Edition. This was done in the U. K just to get rid of surplus mk1 golf’s before the Mk2 was launched. This true Mk1 Gti looks, feels and sounds fantastic, you can sense every little thing through its steering wheel and its driving seat. It’s the car that makes 40mph feel like 400mph, that’s how driving should feel especially as she is so light at approximately 850kg! Dozens of m. o. t’s dating back to 1986, she has a current m. o. t so you know she is safe and cared for even though now she has been registered as Historic and doesn’t even need one, also road tax free!! Two huge folders full of receipts with thousands of pounds spent over the years for new parts and works done through the years and most importantly her original blue factory owners car manuals, very, very rare.
Affectionately known as Amy she lives in a heated and de humidified garage, only driven on a warm sunny day with the odd white fluffy cloud in the sky. Never driven in winter on wet, salty roads. Don’t let the 189k mileage put you off, I cannot personally warrant it, but looking at the m. o. t history dating right back to 1986 you can see it must be honest.
