Description
1930 Rolls-Royce 20/ 25 hp with two seater sports cabriolet coachwork by Hooper, with dickey seats.
Often referred to as a Doctor's Coupé, affectionately referred to as RX.
Registration number: RX6000.
Chassis number: GDP 28.
Mileage: 198, 000.
This fine handsome example was originally purchased by Arthur Hill, The 7th Marquess of Downshire for approximately £2, 000.
He owned RX for 17 years and covered 82, 486 miles during his ownership, before selling it to the present owners parents in 1947 for the princely sum of £1, 272.
They owned RX until 1955 when they decided to exchange it for a 1934 Sports Saloon, as they found it too difficult shoehorning two adults and three children into what is basically a two seater.
Following their ownership, RX passed through two more owners before being purchased in 1983 by a Surgeon from Shrewsbury. He spent approximately 10 years carrying out a detailed, authentic and comprehensive restoration which won him many prizes at various RREC concours events, including "The Douglas Wood Trophy for Best Personal Restoration".
In 2003, the present owner happened to attend the RREC Annual Rally and was astonished to see, after nearly 50 years, his childhood car, RX on display in the concours. He got chatting to the Surgeon from Shrewsbury and was delighted to purchase RX several months later.
Since then, RX has been extremely well cared for, driven regularly and is a pleasure to drive. Regular servicing and maintenance having being carried out by R-R specialists to ensure RX remains in fine fettle.
RX benefits from being fitted with an Overdrive, an Aluminium Cylinder Head and a High Quality Stainless Steel Exhaust System.
Everything is presented very well with fine details, original and period correct features. "Boa-constrictor" and Klaxon Horns, Engine and Gearbox Undertrays, Wefco Leather Gaiters and ACE Wheel Discs.
There are also several fitted tool kits complete with original R-R tools, located under the front seat and in the dickey seat area. A particularly interesting feature is a set of drawers containing original and correct tools, located behind the front seats.
Detailed and fascinating history file with many photographs and invoices documenting the life of RX.
RX is featured on page 126 of Lawrence Dalton's book "Coachwork on Rolls-Royce 1906 - 1939".
This advert is placed with a heavy heart. It is however time for RX to be enjoyed by it's next custodian.
