1999 Renault Clio

It is a unique car and rather rare vehicle now which is packed with copious amounts of character and most importantly chic French styling!

The car has been owned by myself since February 2023. It was purchased as my first car.

When I purchased the car, it needed some TLC. I have spent over £1500 repairing and replacing parts to bring the car back to its former glory. I've spent nearly everyday meticulously cleaning, polishing & caring for it. It has been cared for in a way that is difficult to describe, everyone always told me I was treating it although it was my child! Unfortunately, I now need a bigger car which is heartbreaking because I have to let this one go.

I have covered a little over 4000 miles in this car, and it has never put a foot wrong. Having been owned previously by an elderly individual, It has never been driven in an aggressive or challenging way in its life. Since I have owned it, the car has always been driven in a gentle manner and mostly used for town driving.

Regarding the overall condition of the car, it is in overall good condition. The paintwork is in truly fabulous condition, finished in a pearlescent blue with no peeling or discoloration, it has a really deep gloss shine. There is very few minor imperfections to paint these are mostly seen on the nearside & offside rear wheel arch, these are the cars main areas of concern. Whilst it is purely superficial at the moment, there is some 'bubbling' underneath the paint surrounding the wheel arch. As you can from the photo it has been painted, this is purely to seal it and prevent further deterioration on the offside/ drivers side of the car. Aside from the obvious cosmetic concern, this is not considered an issue at the moment, and in the past two years of the car being in my ownership it has not deteriorated further.

For a vehicle which is approaching 26 years of age, it has a few battle scars which are all part of its history. These can mostly be seen on the front and rear plastic bumpers, where the odd shopping trolley has made contact with the car. Please see the photographs.

The interior is in like brand new condition, aside from a tiny amount of wear to the drivers seat bolster and steering wheel. Everything is super presentable, the dashboard is not peeling or cracked. There are no stains in the carpets or seats, it even has a full set of mats which have always been present. The rear is in like brand new condition, it is although it has never been used! All of the controls, operate smoothly as they should and there is no damage to any of the interior trim or plastics.

The car drives unbelievably well, it genuinely drives like a brand new car. The clutch biting point has always been high, but this is a well documented feature of the MK2 Clio due to its self adjusting cable system, this can be found on nearly every forum and website.

The steering is hydraulically power assisted, and is very direct with no play and it tracks perfectly straight.

The engine is incredibly smooth and responsive, and whilst only having 58hp it is very 'nippy' around the town. It is quite happy on the motorway too, and will deliver on average 45 mpg, so is very efficient too.

Below is a comprehensive but not exhaustive list (as I've most likely missed something!) of the extensive maintenance work this car has had carried out. All of the work, repairs & maintenance has been carried out in my ownership in the last two years within the last 4000 miles.

Maintenance/ Repairs carried out each area of the vehicle:

Engine:

- Timing belt, tensioner and water pump replaced by a local garage, this will not due for another 70, 000 miles.

- Full Service including replacement of engine oil, Oil filter, Air Filter & Fuel filter. As with the majority of maintenance carried out, it was using genuine or high quality replacement parts not cheap substandard items.

- Entire replacement standard exhaust system, including mid section, rear muffler, clamps and rear exhaust mount.

- Replacement Hella Ignition coil fitted.

- HT Leads replaced with Bosch leads.

- Crankshaft TDC Sensor replaced.

- Replacement Varta Blue Dynamic 12v Battery fitted.

- Coolant/ Anti-freezed flushed through and replaced with Renault RX Type D coolant.

Steering/ Suspension:

- Power steering fluid circuit drained, flushed through and refilled with Total energies Dextron 3.

- Nearside Front lower ball joint replaced with a Delphi equivalent.

- Both offside & Nearside anti-roll bar drop links replaced.

- Nearside front coil spring replaced.

Braking system:

- Both front Brake pads replaced, by a local garage.

- Both Front Brake discs replaced alongside the brake pads.

Lighting/ Visibility:

- Phillips RacingVision +200 % H4 Headlight bulbs fitted.

- New front & rear Bosch windscreen wipers.

- I-speed Wind Deflectors fitted to the front and rear windows.
