Description
WGN is an authentic and individual 1969 'go anywhere' classic built for adventure and updated for regular, reliable journeys.
You are viewing a unique vehicle with an exceptional pedigree and in extraordinary working condition.
A 200TDI conversion provides the turbo-charged power, with an overdrive fitted to facilitate modern cruising comfort. (The professional conversion included new Steve Parker exhaust, revised thermostat sender and an upgraded air filter for the turbo.)
This Series 2a 109 (long wheel base) was customised 50 years with a twin-burner gas stove/ grill, sink, storage and aluminum 'kitchen' worktops ... as well as a safari-style sunroof and, included in the sale, a more recent rear bunkbed assembly!
The odometer shows just over 1000 miles, but in 55 years this is actually 101, 000 - less than 2000 a year: no surprise the vehicle runs as well as it does.
Under the bonnet, everything has been well-maintained and regularly serviced: likewise the transmission, chassis, suspension, steering etc. have enjoyed regular inspection and proper care.
More recently, the shocks have been replaced, the steering overhauled (with the addition of a Series 3 damper to withstand dual-carriageway potholes!), brake pipes and hoses renewed.
The radiator was replaced in the last six months with new hoses as needed.
Modern adaptation include the electric thermostatic fan, a cab-control on the heater matrix, hazard lights and more ...
There is some localised deterioration to the paintwork, but the panels are all sound and the colours - Land Rover 'limestone' & 'bronze' - easy to source for a pristine finish if desired.
All the rear window rubber seals have been replaced; the roof lining rejuvenated; sound reduction installed on seatbox and under mats; auxiliary light (on extended cable) for use outside vehicle ... We have owned WGN for almost a decade: relocation forces a reluctant 'quick' sale.
We had both, previously, owned Series 3 Land Rovers. When life brought the two of us together, we decided it was time to renew our enjoyment of these classic vehicles.
We anticipated spending months carefully finding the 'right one', but as soon as we saw WGN we paid a deposit immediately: the perfect blend of history and utility, adventure and convenience, reliability and ease of maintenance.
There is no other Land Rover quite like WGN: we knew it was a gem and it has proved to be a source of never-ending joy, discovery, admiration and escape!
The camping conversion is, we believe, one of a kind: there is some suggestion it was completed for HM Customs & Excise but we have never been able to verify the early history of the vehicle.
The sale will include numerous 'spares' (bulbs, fuses, air filter ...), original period maps, maintenance books and more!
