Here we have my beautiful Maserati Ghibli, I bought this car in 2017 having always wanted a Ghibli having had a number of earlier biturbos. When I was looking I found it hard to find a manual car and even harder to find a nice one… then this came along and it ticked all of the boxes.

The car started life in Italy, delivered new via a dealer in Bologna. Being a home market car means it is the fastest offering of the Ghibli production except the cup. The 2L manual cars came equipped with a 6 speed gearbox as opposed to the 5speed cars all other Ghiblis received that were destined for other countries. In true Maserati fashion they also made their Italian market 2L faster than the 2. 8L export car (306hp vs 285hp). Being a series 1 car means this car is also without ABS and has a single ECU vs the later twin ECU setup that the later ABS cars got. All of this appealed to me as it means this is the simplest, fastest and lightest Ghibli.

The car is in truly magnificent condition throughout, I think you will genuinely struggle to find a nicer one. This car has lead a very gentle life and it has remained in exceptional original condition. It has never been rusty or repaired or covered in under seal. The underside is still coated in the original Maserati applied undercoat which if you’re a nerd like me will be pleasing to see, they’re only original once and I like cars that haven’t been got at. During my ownership the car has been stored correctly and has never been driven in winter months. It was imported into the uk in 2015.

The car was exceptionally nice when I bought it but I have further improved it by investing considerably in ensuring the reliability of the car, during my ownership it has been over serviced, receiving oil changes yearly and 2 cam belt services (the latest one taking place in dec 24) I have also renewed all fuel pipes, engine mounts, alternator, brake discs and pads and upgraded the suspension to coil over dampers.

The car starts with ease and idles smoothly, oil pressure is perfect and it has no leaks whatsoever, it uses no oil or coolant and it performs as it should. It feels very fast even by todays standards and it is a very fun car to use, being a 2L it likes you to use the whole rev range which combined with the 6 speed box makes for a very engaging drivers car.

The handling has been improved by fitting coil overs from AS motorsport in the Netherlands. The standard car in my opinion handles slightly strange, it is very soft and feels far less sporty than the engine. They also have a strange stance where the rear is very high and the front very low (rectified on the cup and K. S equipped cars) so with the updated suspension fitted these idiosyncrasies have been remedied. The alignment has also been set to suit the altered suspension and the result is a car that feels more M3 than biturbo. The ride height has been set somewhere near original at the front but lower at the back, so ground clearance where it matters (front) remains as per original so the car is just as usable as it was originally.

The brake discs are all new which I bought at great expense. The pads are new and the fluid was changed at the last service in December.

The clutch slave cylinder is new as is the clutch master cylinder. The clutch bites beautifully and the gearbox is a joy to use (gbox oil changed in dec too likewise diff oil)

The tyres are new Michelin pilot sport 4

Everything works exactly as it should including the air conditioning which is ice cold.

The body is in stunning condition, the paint has a deep consistent shine across all panels and the panel gaps are perfect. There are no signs of previous repair. There are a few minor stone chips as to be expected but overall this is an exceptionally sharp Ghibli.

The interior is in equally as impressive condition. The interior on these cars is gorgeous and for me one of the things that attracted me to them in the first place. The leatherwork is in outstanding condition with only minimal wear evident to the drivers seat. The suede headlining is in good condition and isn’t sagging. The carpets are unmarked as are the wood trims. On the road the car feels unbelievably civilised, there are no annoying rattles or squeaks and road noise is almost none existent.

The car is complete with its original leather document wallet and all hand books including the original service book. There are lots of receipts present too including those from Italy where maintenance was carried out by Candini (well known Maserati experts) the car benefitted from an expensive engine out chain replacement in their workshop.
