Description
For reluctant sale is our 300tdi pop top camper. The fully insulted, sound proofed and carpeted interior includes a rear L shaped seating area, lots of storage and bed platform so you can sleep without the roof up or could possibly sleep 4 at a push with the roof up.
The interior units are modular so will easily and quickly unbolt and the second row unit will quickly come out so the second row seats can be put back in turning it back into a station wagon (the second row seats are included in the sale).
Front runner drop down table on the rear door with storage for cooking equipment / spices etc. Cold water tap fed from a 40L in the second row unit. Diesel night heater under the drivers seat which feeds into the back and also the second row unit for a 'drying room' for hiking bots / jackets etc. Fogstar 105Ah lithium battery and renogy DCDC charger fitted (in the second row unit). It dosent currently have solar connected (I have a renogy solar panel I might include?), but it's all wired up so just needs the pannel / connector attaching.
Front seats have recently been replaced with Mazda seats which are incredibly comfortable (and modified for access to the battery compartment). Also included in the sale are the original seats which we refurbished and modified with heated seat elements. The original seats have always had seat covers on so in brand new condition. Smaller steering wheel (I think from a metro) and seat rails fitted so a great seating position.
Write offroad matting is fitted in the front along with genuine land rover mats. The front is really clean and tidy. Lots of USB / 12v ports (some on the Leisure battery and some on ignition live)
Exterior has locking tree sliders for extra security and explore glazing gullwings fitted so the interior units can be reached from inside or out. Terrafirma 270 awning fitted. Bonnet bag is fitted on the front for chairs, recovery gear etc.
Terrafirma winch bumper and fold up number plate (but no winch). ORE spotlights have been fitted and run off headlight main beam. LED lights all round.
Also fitted is rear recovery point, access step and corner protectors. 285/ 75/ R16 tyres (new in May this year) with 50mm suspension lift and gwyn lewis prop shafts front and rear (front recently refurbished by Gwyn). Gwyn Lewis mud flaps / guards. Gwyn lewis steering arms and discovery drop arm conversion.
The engine is a 300tdi with no expense spared, pretty much everything is brand new - full width intercooler, tuned fuel pump, twin inlet manifold, silicone hoses all round, new hybrid turbo, replacement injector pump about 2 years ago. New ashcroft transfer case with LSD which is great for loose gravel / ice. Clutch replaced with a LOF unit about a year ago. Fourby twin inlet. Full engine / gearbox breather system.
Chassis and bulkhead are solid, originally painted with Buzweld treatment about 4/ 5 years ago and then inspected and retreated by Trek Overland who found it in great condition.
No expense has been spared on this, whatever it has needed it has got and the best quality one I could afford - There is quite honestly far more than I could ever list. But I have kept a full record of what has been done which I am happy to discuss with anyone who is interested. It has been serviced every 6 months regardless of use.
Bad bits - it would possibly benefit from a good polish (it polishes up really well, but I haven't bothered recently being winter). Also the door cards have seen better days, nothing wrong with them at all, but not perfect. We bought this as an original station wagon around 5/ 6 years ago and have coverted it slowly into what you see today. Last year converting the roof to a pop top and having a professional camper interior custom made.
This Defender has certainly seen us though some adventures. It's been ever faithful and never let us down. It's wanted for nothing and we can show a full list of everything that had been done for those who are seriously interested.
It's really hurting both writing this and the prospect of someone else owning it! But our adventures are taking us in a different direction (climbing) and we are begining to wondering if this is the best vehicle for us hence the sale.
