Description

1969 Dodge Charger RT

A project car in the form of a 1969 Charger RT, (road and track). It has all its panels although there is extensive rust to remediate. The stamping and VIN indicates it is a true RT car but not does not have its factory original engine. The car will come with an era correct 440ci V8 and A727 automatic as well as the fender tag and there are notes that the partial VIN is present on both the radiator support and the trunk lip.

Exterior
1968 saw a redesign in the Charger line, including the R/ T, which received minor styling changes for '69. It has a 207. 9-inch-long body, which envelopes the 117-inch wheelbase chassis, and shows inset simulated scoops on the hood and forward edge of each door. The front grille is deeply recessed and split in two and has wavy chromed edging. The bumper below is showing rusted areas on the surface. The hood and front fenders are showing surface rust and invasive rust near the front of the doors on the rockers as well as areas of heavily applied body filler on the fender tops. The driver's door looks pretty good, however moving back, the rear quarters are showing extensive invasive rust before and after the wheel wells especially on the driver's side. The passenger door has invasive as well as surface rust as is the passenger front quarter. Long horizontal tail lamps replace the round bezels of the previous year and the rear bumper is attached below and has some fading and beginnings of rust. The flying buttress B panels of the roofline melt into the patina trunk lid and frame the rear glass. The roofline shows surface rust in the front and on the drivers side. Rusted chrome steel wheels are wrapped with road hugger radials.

Interior
The door panels are completely destroyed and sagging in black vinyl and the thresholds are rusted, as are the floors sans any carpeting. There are no front buckets present however the center console option remains. The dash is deteriorated, has the speedo and inset clock but no tach. In the center the radio is in and the vinyl lower and glovebox are in green but are damaged from water, as is the dash top. The rear bench is still present but sagging, and rear side panels are non-existent. The headliner is missing and the steel under the roof is rusted. The original steering wheel is in but damaged.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a dis-assembled 440ci V8, (circa 1966 to 1972), and there is a 4-barrel intake manifold but no carburetor. The non original A727 Torqueflite transmission is a 3-speed automatic and resides in the trunk. An 8-3/ 4 rear axle is noted.

Undercarriage
Heavy surface rust is noted on the back portion of the undercarriage. The floorpans remain fairly solid and have plenty of patina and we note heavy invasive rust in the left rear unibody rail along with a few areas in the trunk pan. There is no driveshaft and no pinion gear in the rear end. The car has independent torsion bar suspension in front, and leaf springs on back. Drum brakes are all around.

A project car and stamped with the rarer RT codes the car may have potential to bring some serious money when worked.
