Description
The Mercedes-Benz 300 Cabriolet, the "big Mercedes", as the W 186 model series was unofficially known when it was presented in April 1951, was the largest and fastest German production car at the time. This automotive symbol of the German economic miracle also set new standards in terms of workmanship and unrivalled handling for such a large vehicle. Because of the first German Chancellor's preference for this representative saloon, the model series has been known as the "Adenauer Mercedes" ever since. Its most exclusive variant was the Cabriolet, whose multi-layered soft top was moved by massive chrome-plated storm bars. Its exclusivity was also reflected in the price of around 23, 000 marks - an amount for which you could easily buy four VW Beetles. Accordingly, only 707 examples of the 300 Cabriolet were produced in eleven years, and this impressive and elegant convertible was delivered to the USA. Around 50 years later, it was adapted to meet the demands of contemporary mobility with great effort, yet inconspicuously. In addition to the extras that were already a matter of course in this class of car, such as electric windows and air conditioning, it was fitted with the tried-and-tested M104 six-cylinder in-line engine from various Mercedes model series, a new automatic gearbox, front and rear headrests, seat belts, electric front seat adjustment, heated front seats and metric instruments. Power steering and a reversing camera inconspicuously integrated into the rear-view mirror make this majestic battleship easy to manoeuvre. This extremely rare classic car returned to Germany in 2008. In beautiful condition and with a mileage of just 20, 400 kilometres, it is waiting to be put back on the road for its grand entrance. If we have aroused your interest in this rare example, please do not hesitate to contact us. The vehicle can be viewed in our showroom by prior appointment. We will be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
