Description
Extremely Rare 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone, reportedly less than 50 cars remaining.
The 64 & 65 Comet Cyclones were Fords chosen car to campaign in drag racing, for both A/ FX & B/ FX (factory experimental) class’s. The Comet Cyclone driven by Jack Chrisman coined the term “funny car” back in the 60's. Many Cyclones were raced & destroyed in the 60’s so there are very few genuine Cyclones left!
I purchased this Cyclone in 2016 from California. When it arrived in the UK, I drove it 30 miles home from the docks on trade plates, where it has been in dry storage ever since.
I started work on the Comet some time ago, so it is partially stripped (interior and front & rear screen), the work stalled and was put on hold and that is how it has remained.
This Cyclone is fitted with its factory 289 A-Code with an Auto C4 box (as most were)
I have spent thousands of pounds collecting & importing new parts which will all come with the car, this will include things like:
New & Correct Cyclone only Seat Covers in Red as per original
New Seat Foams
New & Correct Cyclone only Door Cards in Red as per original
New Headliner
New Carpet in Red as per original
New Dash Pad in Red as per original
All new window & door rubber seals
And tons of other trim parts (I cannot even remember half of it but I have boxes of new parts).
There are to many new parts to mention, but once it has a nice coat of paint on it you will have just about everything new to put it back together. The trim all come from North West Classics in Washington State, who are the No. 1 Company for interiors on these. The Cyclone specific trim parts cost me a small fortune alone.
Condition wise, the car has been previously painted in its original Polar White (Wimbledon White), but this has crazed over the years. You could if you prefer, flat this back to the original paint to create a period looking patina.
It has a small bit of old collision damage to the left rear quarter panel but its not major and anyone who can do bodywork will soon have it sorted! Other than that, it is a very solid shell as you would expect from it living in California most of its life, but it does have a couple of very minor rust spots that will need addressing (and I mean minor).
The car is 100% complete and is UK registered in my name on a correct “65/ C” registration.
I have not started the engine for years as I removed the fuel tank whilst stripping it for paint, but im sure with some fuel in the carb and a decent battery there is no reason for it not to run
I don’t have many pictures as it was never my intention to sell car, so im offering it up for sale very reluctantly! I will add more pictures as I find them.
YOU WILL NOT FIND ANOTHER (You cannot even find genuine 65 Cyclones in the States and if you do, they are upwards of $60K. It’s a real rarity.
If you want something a little special & different that uses Ford Falcon & Mustang parts, then this might be the car for you.
