Description
For sale is my 1992 BMW 318i with just 68384 miles on the clock (may rise slightly). This has been my daily driver for the past 18 months and I've loved it but dogs and work are forcing something a bit more practical.
I purchased this in August 2023 as a retro daily driver and it's been absolutely brilliant. Over this time I've done bits here and there to improve the car and pretty much used it daily. It comes with a good service history, MOT until August 2025, lots of recent work and 2 keys.
Interior is in good condition save for some wear on the seat but overall extremely presentable. All the electrics work perfectly and I've even replaced all the dash bulbs so at night you get the lovely orange BMW glow from the gauges.
The bodywork is generally good, importantly there is no rust on the sills, the arches or anywhere else (apart from a tiny scab on the rear arch which is purely surface, pictured). Jacking points are all solid as new and rust has never been an issue on this car. In my ownership the sills have been painted, as well as undersealed along with all the inner arches. I do have pictures of the arches before undersealing to show no sins are being hidden. The rest of the bodywork is generally good with a couple areas of paint flaking as pictured. Front arches are the worst as they slightly rippled but cheap to replace. Overall this is still a very presentable car and I get lots of compliments on it especially for the age!
Work completed since August 2023:
- timing belt and water pump replaced at 63000 miles
- head skimmed and new head gasket at 63000 miles due to overheating issue (plastic expansion tank had cracked and was leaking coolant)
- majority of cooling system replaced including expansion tank, fan coupler, thermostat, radiator flushed (due to above). E36s are known to have cooling issues and this one is now perfect and will sit perfectly at temperature all day long.
- auxiliary belt replaced at 66000 miles along with the adjuster (ordered from USA as unavailable in the UK or Europe!)
- sills painted and undersealed along with front and rear arches (pictures attached to show condition before undersealing, no rust whatsoever)
- track rod ends replaced at 65000 miles
- rear shock absorbers replaced at 68000 miles
- electric window switches replaced
- rear windscreen and door handle seals replaced
- rocker gasket will be replaced prior to sale (engine oil leak advisory on last MOT)
- lots of other stuff too minor to mention
Bad points (it's a 33 year old car remember!):
- tyres will need replacing for next MOT. Loads of tread left but cracked and old.
- advisories on last MOT for diff leak and front ball joints. I've had a look at the diff and think the tester was being a bit over zealous, it's not actively leaking or losing oil but something to bare in mind.
- fuel gauge temperamental - I've taken out the senders and cleaned the contacts which helped but above half a tank sometimes displays as empty. Easy fix and has always worked fine below half so never any issues with running out.
Listing for £2250 ono, viewing is encouraged and I'm happy to answer any questions or send more pictures to anyone interested.
Private plates and head unit will be removed prior to sale (originally came with no stereo so blanking plate will be reinstalled but all the wiring and speakers were already there so easy to refit another headunit if you choose to).
