Description
For sale I have my 1998 W140 S600 lwb, with full service history. It has Mercedes Benz service up to 108599 and specialist since then. It has an MOT till December 2025 and I have owned the car since February 2021.
A video of my car can be found on YouTube on Number 27 channel.
The colour is Obsidian Black metallic, with two tone grey leather interior and alcantara headlining. The body work is in very good condition, subject to some very small patches on the front wings. No further rust that I can see. The interior has no rips or tears in the leather.
The car has xenon lights, which is a rare option on these cars (but good to have) and even rarer is a trip computer. Speed limiter, range, mpg (I don’t talk about that).
All the electrics work seats, windows, sunroof, mirrors (no sagging).
The car is effortless to drive. However, when you decide to put your foot down it takes on a different character. For a big car it handles very well. It has Hankook tyres all round with lot of tread remaining.
In my ownership the car has been fully serviced and a lot of repair work has been carried out.
Some of the significant work is below
Replace all the suspension components at the rear, spring, bushes , brake pipes subframe bushes, discs and pad.
Steering box
Water pump
Lots more.
Whilst a car is only as good as it last few services, this car has documented service history dating back to 2004.
There is simply too much to list, so a summary of the services is below.
Star Motors Reading 2009 - 2018
George Fraser 2021- 22
SS Motors 2022- to present
Recent services
17/ 11/ 23 (151367) Full service, all filters, gearbox service, coolant and brake flush £1, 194
25/ 10/ 2024 (152492) Oil service, aircon, grease brake pipes, pre MOT check £535
25/ 11/ 2024 (152815) MOT, front lower ball joints and sundry repairs £826.
The car has had all oil leaks fixed (the most common is from the steering box, which was replaced).
The car has a nail in the tyre, which results in a very slow puncture. I am looking into that as I want keep all the tyres the same brand, so not replaced yet.
I have the receipts for all the work. The car is 26 years old and is not garaged, so it is not immaculate, but is very good.
There are a few jobs that I will do but are not essential.
1. The driver's door closes ok however, the hinge has dropped slightly, as a result it trips the soft close occasionally. The soft close works on all the doors and the boot.
If I keep the car a while longer, I will get the door realigned. These doors are very heavy.
2. The pulley on the secondary air pump could do with replacing. The pump works fine. You only notice it when you lift the bonnet. The noise has been there since I bought the car. I was not sure what it was. It is not urgent.
You can make your own enquiries for the cost to do those jobs.
I have been as honest as I can with this car, as I want the new owner to be fully aware of its condition. There are lot of pictures to review and I have videos of the rear subframe work. The videos are too large for eBay, so WhatsApp me.
Cars like these are rare to find. They are not cheap to run or maintain, maybe the same as a Mercedes CLA180! Overall. A lot of the big jobs have been done, so you should be ok. There are a lot of tired ones out there (but the car hides it very well). A car with 100k miles may still have a 26 year old ball joint on it, if you know what I mean.
If you have read this far, thank you.
I am open to any questions ) inspections, video requests and possible negotiations on price.
