Description
1963 Humber Sceptre Mark 1
Possibly the best Humber Sceptre Mark 1 in the country, this car was registered on 18th November 1963 in Middlesex (hence the A registration suffix) and has covered only 19, 868 miles since new.
The first owner put the car into long term storage in his garage in the early 1970s. The second owner acquired the car through a probate sale in 2003. He owned the car for 8 years during which time he recommissioned it as follows:-
Renewed the braking system
Overhauled the electrics
Rebuilt the engine including upgrading the cylinder head to run on unleaded petrol
Replaced the original Solex carburettor with a 28/ 36 DCD Weber as the Solex can cause some running problems
Replaced the petrol tank with a new one
Since recommissioning, the radiator has been re-cored and the gearbox professionally reconditioned as the 2nd gear synchromesh was weak.
A Pertronix electronic ignition system has been installed inside the distributor.
I bought the car in June 2021 when the mileage was 17, 950. I have recently fitted a new set of genuine whitewall tyres to replace the standard tyres which had whitewall trims.
The car won a trophy for “Best Classic Car” in a King Charles Coronation Cavalcade of 100 cars on 7th May 2023.
Included in the sale are:
Workshop Manual
Owner's Handbook
Large History File
Contemporary Sales Brochure
My reason for selling is that I have just bought another classic car and I only have a single garage. I bought this Humber Sceptre because it is a superbly equipped sports saloon. The car has covered less than 20, 000 miles since new in 1963. My favourite thing about this classic is its sporty looks inside and out.
