Description
1979 Series 1 lotus sunbeam
Brief spec is:
October 1979 Series 1 Lotus Sunbeam, fully restored.
Fitted with a Seaman built 2. 2, 420 lift cams, ported and flowed head, steel buckets, big bore manifold and exhaust, Cosworth pistons and fully balanced bottom end, quoted at around 220 bhp, it certainly feels like it but still nice and docile when required. Engine was refreshed just under a year and 1800ms ago, with new bearings, valve guides, 004 skim on the head, metal head gasket, runs sweet with great oil pressure.
Since my ownership 26 months ago I have done 4700 trouble free VERY entertaining miles, it had a new clutch, Odessey battery [in the boot] new discs all round [massive 300 AP’s on front, stops VERY well] new Toyo tyres, hi torque starter motor, alternator, rebuilt axle with fresh 3. 9 CWP [a 3. 7 CWP included], new G-Box seal, new oils all round. ZF is a Very rare direct top but with the lower 1st gear. IMO this really wakes the car up, albeit cruising on the M-way is noisier over the NSL My 3rd LS and easily the best. Coming from a rallying background this little beauty ticks all the boxes but is surprisingly "refined" to drive sedately if you so wish ;-) It is Very straight and tidy, wants for nothing IMO and a total hoot to drive. TBH i don't really want to sell it, but have managed to obtain the car of my dreams so sadly the LS ought to go to free up some funds, you know how it is.
