Description
The MG TC is arguably the most desirable of the post war T series cars. With prewar styling cues, yet the strong XPAG engine, the TC has always been a collectible roadster. This is a matching numbers example, which has spent most of its life in California. Restored by Mike Goodman’s Sports Car Service in Van Nuys California, this TC was done to a very high standard. Under 20 plus year ownership, TC5190 was purchased in the California bay area, prior to being shipped later to Connecticut.
Shortly after its arrival, it began being looked after by a highly respected marque specialist. In 2019 a loose rear freeze plug lead to a mechanical going over. The engine was removed, the front motor mount was replaced as well as radiator hoses and engine gaskets. Ignition components were inspected and replaced where needed, including the 9-post regulator. A spin on oil filter was added as well as a modern stainless-steel thermostat housing. The crank was reground by Leifert Automotive Machine Co., while connecting rod and main bearings were replaced. The engine compartment remains very tidy and fresh matching the rest of the car.
TC5190 sports a stunning interior, with very clean light faced gauges and dash knobs correctly labeled. Mike Goodman even includes a cover under the dashboard for neatness. Carpets show well, however do show some wear upon close inspection. Fortunately, a complete brand new black carpet set is included in the sale. An important feature to note on any T series MG, are the closing of the doors. TC 5190s doors close and latch easily, exactly and as they should. Side curtains are in their appropriate rear compartment, and are exceptionally clean.
The exterior shows very nicely and while there are some touched up chips, TC5190 attracts attention where ever it goes. Brightwork is in very nice condition, on this very nicely appointed TC. Features such as the period Lucas driving light and correct horn that adorn the front, make a distinctive difference. The stunning chrome 19” wire wheels play nicely with the front and rear nurf bar bumpers and add to the level of sophistication.
This is an incredibly tight example, with excellent road holding. TC5190 starts easily, pulls well and is ready for immediate enjoyment!
