Here we have our cherished 'Avril', a stunning late MKll Wolseley 1300 in Blaze, which is a very rare colour, with only one other in this colour on the road which is an automatic - ours is of manual transmission.
History of Avril:
Built at the Cowley plant and registered on 1st October 1972, Avril was originally sold via BMC dealership Keith Webb of Herefordshire and remained with her first owner (Mr John Jones) for 3 years until she was purchased by John Hughes of Hereford who saw a Vanden Plas 1300 on the forecourt of a local garage but ended up driving away in Avril. She was Johns daily driver throughout his working life until his retirement in 1996 when he decided to treat his beloved Wolseley to a restoration including a replacement front wing and a full repaint. Johns long term love affair with Avril then continued as the car then again became his pride and joy, only to be used on high days and holidays and never to see a salty British winter again. John attended many local car shows and club shows in the car and amassed many spares (almost a single garage full), some of which are included within the sale including a NOS bonnet.
Sadly, due to his advancing years the time came for John to part with his beloved Wolseley and subsequently we bought Avril. The sale wasn't easy, as we were interviewed by John so that he had the reassurance we would also treasure Avril.
Some recent work carried out on Avril:
New brake pads all round with fresh brake fluid
All four wheel bearings replaced.
New fuel pump
Recent full stainless steel exhaust
New battery
New thermostat and complete engine flush
Hydrolastic fluid drained, flushed and replaced
Full service including points
New tyres all round
Avril has never been welded, nor does she need any
Avril starts first time, every time and is a pleasure to drive especially with her 1300 engine.
Everything operates perfectly, including the front grill illuminated Wolseley badge!
Avril comes with a nice history file which includes original sales brochures, receipts and the very rare Passport to Service.
Both original sets of keys are present.
Avril is never driven in the rain/ salty road conditions and is always highly polished and garaged.
Avril was invited to attend a recent NEC Class Car show and she stood proudly on the ADO16 stand (see photos)
The reason for selling Avril is simply due to lack of use and prefer a true enthusiast buyer, who will again cherish Avril as we have.
