Description
1960 Land Rover Series II 88” Petrol. Mabel is a truly unique and well-preserved Series II Land Rover, registered on 7/ 11/ 60. She’s spent most of her life in Devon over the past 64 years, with the first owner 40 years and the second 19 years respectively. Some panels have been painted, but mostly she has a lovely patinated appearance and is exceptionally straight for a Series.
Overall, this is a lovely classic Land Rover that’s hard to find with this originality and provenance. Mabel comes complete with the original handbook, jack, and a file of receipts and MOTs. She’s located in Northamptonshire, and any inspection is welcome. I also have a large library of photographs and a video walk-around available on request. Delivery anywhere in the UK can also be arranged.
As a professional photographer, I purchased this car from a private owner around 6 weeks ago for a film shoot - now completed and hence the sale. I am a Series 2 club member and have other Land Rovers, so I chose this Landy with care and attention to detail. She’s only been driven a minimal amount in the past 25 years, and I believe her current mileage of just 51, 000 is genuine, as evidenced by my numerous MOT certificates on file.
Mabel has been well-maintained throughout her life, always kept in a garage. Her previous owners have replaced the brakes, clutch hydraulics, and head gasket. More recently, the rear crankshaft oil seal, clutch plate, fuel pump, new radiator, and water pump were all replaced. You’ll also notice that she has new tyres that are only 1000 miles old.
Most importantly, the chassis is in excellent condition for the age of the vehicle. I have recently had Mabel inspected on a ramp and the garage owners were very impressed with her condition. Apart from a small repair to the rear cross member, the chassis looks to be original and very solid.
She starts on the button and drives really well, with a good clutch and solid brakes. My Land Rover specialist in Devon has recently checked her over and reports back that she has good compression and is one of the most original Series IIs he was seen.
