Description
Triumph Spitfire 6 conversion.
1977 Spitfire 1500 chassis with 2l straight 6 engine, overdrive and drivetrain.
The car was completely rebuilt in 2017, chassis was blasted and painted in body colour, new panels fitted and complete respray carried out.
Engine was stripped and rebuilt, bored and skimmed with new pistons and rings. Top end was rebuilt with TR5 camshaft & followers incl new water pump.
Suspension was fully rebuilt and updated with GT6 towers, new UJ's, GT6 discs and calipers. New master and slave cylinders, plus brake servo fitted.
Gearbox had new seals and synchros, overdrive is fitted to 3rd and 4th.
Alloy radiator with Electric fan.
GT6 Mk3 stainless exhaust.
I've owned the car for just over 5 years and although not covered many miles (around 3000), I've enjoyed it immensely and will be sad to see it go, but I'm just not finding the time to use it.
In my ownership the car has been regularly maintained. I've recently had a new steering rack fitted as the old one had play in it and I've also removed the electronic ignition and gone back to points, which to be honest is making the car run significantly better.
Good stuff. Engine and exhaust note are fantastic and the car is really lovely to drive. It's a really usable classic. Hood and interior are pretty much as new.
Bad stuff. Paintwork is not concours. There are a couple of thin patches and the GT6 bonnet could have done with a bit more prep time, there is also a small scab at the bottom of the passenger side door which I treated when I bought the car and it has never worsened since. I can't find any other rust.
