Description
Royal Enfield Continental GT 250cc from 1967 - video of it running on other platforms as this site doesn’t have that feature.
My dad bought this in 2018, along with a similar GT from 1965, and never got the chance to ride or work on them. I am now selling both of them.
This is the 1967 one, registration Number PEU 296F.
Here is the original advert from the 17/ 06/ 18 Charterhouse Auctions description (as seen in photo):
“A 1967 Royal Enfield Continental GT, registration number PEU 296F, frame number 72475, engine number GT17832, red.
“The Royal Enfield Continental GT is a true production café racer which was based on the commuter everyday Crusader. Enfield embarked on an ambitious performance test to highlight the 250cc superiority. In the winter of '64 they took a standard GT and ran it non stop from John o'Groats to Lands End via Silverstone race circuit, with the whole end to end marathon taking 22 hours 20 minutes. Quite an achievement! This Continental GT has formed part of a private collection.
“Having seen little use of late being on display most of the time in the current ownership, this well presented GT would probably benefit from a shakedown and general check over before taking to the road. It will be offered for sale with a history file containing receipts, previous MOTS and instruction book.”
There are signs of over-tightening: When first getting started and checking on the spark plug, it was hard to remove and I saw the threads had been stripped, so I ran a reverse thread chaser and put a new plug in. When running, the mixture was not right, maybe an air leak from the carb to the engine, as it is clear one of those bolt threads have been stripped. A tap and die could make it an easy fix, or might be a timing issue, but I have no time to spend on it as I am selling another 15 motorcycles this winter, so feel free to keep an eye on my other listings. The bike comes with V5C, and is Tax and MOT exempt of course.
Any questions or fancy a viewing, just ask. I’ve got no problem with “tyre kickers”, so feel free to come and have a look.
