What can you say about the X308 generation of Jaguar XJR? Last of the real Jaguars? Probably. Best looking XJ? I like an X350 but these are better looking to my eyes. High performance? Tick - 370hp 4. 0 Supercharged V8 mated to a 5-speed Mercedes gearbox and rear wheel drive. Comfort? Yep - again, I rate the X350, but these ride so much better than the later air suspension. Equipment? Wood, leather, CD changer, tape player, sat nav, heathed seats, cruise control, heathed front screen - what more do you need, really? Grace, Space and Pace in spades.
This particular XJR is in great condition, with just 95, 000 miles on the clock. It presents very well inside and out, as can be seen in the photos here. The bodywork scrubs up well in Platinum Silver with good chrome and only a few age-related marks here and there to detract. Inside, the leather is in great nick, with only the minimum of wear to the driver's seat bolster. Everything works as it should, including the CD changer, heated seats, cruise control and sat nav. I remember these being critised back in the day for being small inside, but they're surprisingly practical in day to day use. The wheels and tyre are in good condition, with plenty of tread left on them.
Mechanically, the car is running excellently, with a muted V8 rumble in light use, but a delightful snarl and supercharger whine when required - something that was sadly lose from Jaguar's later R models. The gearbox shifts smoothly in all gears and is quick to respond to downshifts when in Sport mode. The ride is taught but supple at the same time, something that Jaguar really excelled at in the 90's and 00's and something the German's couldn't hope to emulate on our broken British blacktop. You can still feel that DNA today.
The XJR is ready to go, with good service history, including a stamped service book and invoices for more recent expenditure. It has been serviced here at North Devon Classic Cars prior to sale, so is ready for the next lucky owner to enjoy. 10 months MOT is remaining on the vehicle and the V5 is present.
