Description

ALFA ROMEO 2000 GT VELOCE 'BERTONE' 1971 Produced on 7 July 1971, chassis AR 2421152 in Biancospino (013) colour with black plastic-coated fabric interior (known as Texalfa), as certified by the Alfa Romeo Documentation Centre, it was sold by the old Cinelli & De Anna dealership in Pordenone to a young 37-year-old architect from San Stino di Livenza. It subsequently 'emigrated' to the Province of Frosinone, and finally to Latina. In 53 years it has had a few changes of ownership, including one for mortis causa and four to dealers or pseudo-dealers. Fortunately, the car has undergone conservative restoration work that has kept it at the level that can be seen, with a well-preserved interior, a tidy engine compartment, a good paint job, mechanics in excellent working order, and all the instruments in working order. The Alfa Romeo 2000 GT VELOCE is the last and prestigious top of the range coupe version of the Giulia series, born with the 1600 Sprint GT in 1964 by a very young Giorgetto Giugiaro working for Bertone at the time. The sporting experience of the 1750 GTAm born in 1966 led to the development of the engine from 1779 to 1962 cm³ over the years. The new engine, without racing supercharger, intended for road production was designated by the initials AR 00512. For enthusiasts, the engine number is 09174. The 2000 GT Veloce also featured aesthetic renovations: a new front grille with chrome bars with embossed Alfa Romeo badge and integrated headlights, larger rear lights, placement of the secondary instrumentation grouped in 'four-leaf clover' style between the speedometer and rev counter behind the Hellebore goblet-shaped steering wheel; new front seats with headrests. Among the optionals were 'Millerighe' alloy wheels The 2000 GT Veloce was the first Alfa Romeo to display a sports badge depicting the biscione (enamelled green) on the rear pillars. The increase in performance brought the declared top speed to over 195 km/ h. The U. S. monthly magazine 'Hot Rod' in October 1980 called the Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce 'the only European car able to be called a muscle car'. I heard the story of the first and second owners and having seen and tested the car I was inspired to buy it
