Here we have for sale an extremely rare Daimler 4. 2 Vanden Plas with a genuine 56, 000 miles from new. The Vanden Plas was the top spec model in the XJ family, with the vast majority being the Double Six variants. As such few were ordered with the 4. 2 straight 6 and fewer survive now - believed to be less than 50.
Repainted by a previous owner in a slightly lighter opalescent blue to standard, it was carried out to a good standard and looks very smart but has started to micro-blister. Despite this the car is very straight with great panel gaps, excellent chrome work and excellent vinyl roof. There is slight bubbling to the lower rear arch, but nothing major. The sills are in very good condition as are the front and rear valances.
Moving to the interior, this is in excellent condition and reflects the low mileage. Leather is near perfect with minimal wear as is the woodwork. The headlining will need to be replaced and was removed by the previous owner due to sagging - a common issue of any XJ. Carpets are presentable but again could do with replacing to match the rest of the interior.
Mechanically the car runs smoothly, holds temperature and drives very smoothly - exactly as a XJ6 should do. Brakes are sharp and the steering lovely and smooth. Either the oil pressure switch or gauge will need replacing as it is temperamental, but it does have oil pressure. Also the n/ s fuel pump will need replacing and the tank cleaning out.
During the previous owners time, the car was treated to all 4 wheels being fully repainted in the correct colour, along with 4 new tyres. The outer trim rings are in the boot and will be sold with the car. The car was bought with the intention of carrying out the above work but other commitments have meant we sadly need to move this rare car on.
History wise, it comes with various manuals, correct Vanden Plas owners manual, service book, old MOTs and various invoices. There are also some new and spare parts in the boot (bushes, ball joints etc).
A truly lovely and genuine low mileage car that is either a perfect 'as is' classic or ideal winter project to finish off the odd jobs. Very few of these 4. 2 Vanden Plas' come for sale so grab yourself one while you can.
