The Volkswagen Golf was first unveiled in 1974. It was unbelievable that the conservative Volkswagen came up with such a car.
The Golf was very modern thanks to Giugiaro's styling and the technical layout: the transverse engine in the front with front-wheel drive, instead of an air-cooled engine in the rear.

The Golf I was produced from 1974 to 1983. In 1976 the 1st GTI and 1st diesel (1. 5) appeared, in 1978 the 1st convertible and the 1st GTD.
The Golf II is the successor and was in production until 1992. The Golf Cabrio II was not manufactured, the Golf I continued to be produced as a convertible.
