The Citroën Ami series from Citroën was launched in 1961 and remained in production until 1979.
The saloon sold well, but customers remained very divided over the styling.
Both the press and the dealers ("concessionaires" at Citroën) strongly pushed for an estate version.
In 1963, Bertoni started working on the estate. It was introduced in August 1964, six months after the death of designer Bertoni.
The very first Ami8 types can be recognized by the absence of the double chevrons logo on the grille, by sliding windows in the front doors, door trim with storage space and the drum brakes against the gearbox.
The most striking development of the Ami8 was the introduction of disc brakes, in combination with a so-called 'green' hydraulic brake system in which LHM fluid replaces the regular brake fluid. This happened in 1970. Almost at the same time, the sliding windows in the front doors were replaced by roll-down windows.
The Citroen Ami 8 Break that we have for sale here was built in 1977. The car is equipped with the 2-cylinder 600 cc engine.
The car drives and brakes well. This car was brought from France by an enthusiast and has already been improved in many areas. The photos on our own website also show the bottom, which is really in top condition! The car is finished in Blue de France blue paint in combination with a blue fabric interior.
You immediately imagine yourself on the French back roads in the 70s when you get in this car. The paintwork has some imperfections on the outside, but that is of course "dans son jus" as it should be with a French classic.
The car currently still has French papers. A great fun; voiture classique!
